12 inch vinyl single versus digital transfer

Well thanks for agreeing with me there! I don't think that's pointless do you ? LOL
 
2.1 puter sound systems are usually crap. Do you have a special one or something?
'cause even though I'm a vinyl devotee I fail to see how you could really hear the often subtle qualities that make vinyl so alluring on a piece of junk 2.1 puter speaker system.
 
I'm not comparing master tape to vinyl! This is a vinyl to "digital copy of it" comparison and as I said before the audible difference in depth and warmth was obvious to all. I rest my case. :)
 
Sigh. So tell us what this wonderful 2.1 PC system you have is. Perhaps you've found the holy grail of a built in gamers card that isn't rubbish on the inputs.

As for posting my own recordings I don't do any of my own. I charge money to record for other people and, as such, don't own the copyright. Even so, I have posted quick snippets in the past and am not willing to get into a willy waving contest with you. Suffice to say that prior to my retirement I worked on a huge number of TV programmes including news, current affairs, drama and music and, between 1971 and 2002 you would have watched things I did the audio on.

So. What are the exact makes and models of the gear you're using? And how have you got them interconnected?

Arrrgghh! I'm starting to wonder if you're just trolling rather than wanting a sensible discussion.

That said, a copy of anything is never as good as the original no matter how good the gear used to do it is. Every stage of electronics adds something to or takes away something from the original. This is the way of the world. That said, as I posted earlier, I've done digital copies of specialist vinyl like 12 inch singles or my half speed mastered Pink Floyd and managed to get them darn close to the originals--certainly good enough to tell the the "special" vinyl was different from (and better than) "ordinary" vinyl. But identical? Nope. The world doesn't work that way.

Anyway, if you digital copies sound "not quite as good as" the vinyl originals, that's completely normal. However if the vinyl "craps all over" you copies then you need to review how you made the copies--they shouldn't be THAT bad.

I think my final sentence sums it up. A copy--digital or analogue--will never be as good as the original but, it it's a bad as you say, there's something wrong with your method.

I rest MY case.
 
Woahh a minute!! What do you mean by " as bad as you say"? That's a ridiculous comment to make as I said the digital copy wasn't as good as the vinyl original sound and anyone with half a brain knows a duplicate can only get close to the original in sound quality unless you're recording digitally from the start. That doesn't mean my digital recording sounded like crap dude! How about you take yourself to my album site and after you've HEARD the songs we can talk :)
 
Before you get all antsy about my pc system LOL.. I use sennheiser pro quality headphones for monitoring as well. Enjoy our album out on ITunes now!!! :)

INCREDIBLE that you apparently can't read. I assumed nothing ...... what I said was that 2.1 systems are usually junk and then I asked what you had. So I made no assumptions at all nor was I combative and insulting like you seem to want to be.

And MY junk system is a V.P.I. turntable with and Audioquest arm and Sumiko Blue Point Special thru an E.A.R. phono pre-amp thru Paradigm speakers.

Lastly ..... I have said several times that I'm a vinyl guy and prefer the sound of vinyl. Since I'm basically on your side and was polite as can be why do you feel the need to be such a prick?

So why didn't you say that in the first place? Introducing the word "crapped" implies something very different that you're saying now. Even so, a good digital copy of a vinyl disk conveys most of the warmth of the original. As I keep saying, never as good--but it should get darn close.

And to say "2.1 systems are usually junk" then ask which system I use is combative talk to me too bud. If that's polite then I'm sorry I took you wrong. And BTW, have you even bothered to listen to my recordings BEFORE you make such moronic comments and assumptions man? Sheesh
 
I have yet to see/hear a 2.1 system that wasn't junk and I think you'll find that's the experience of most people involved in audio recording.

If you've somehow found one that bucks this trend, I repeat my request that you tell us what it is. You'd probably be very popular with a lot of newbies if you've found an exception to the rule.
 
I had a listen. It's so heavily bit rate reduced to allow for live streaming that it tells me practically nothing, even in their so-called hi-fi mode. To form any sort of valid opinion we'd have to listen to your original wave recording, not a low bit rate distribution copy.

...and, no, I won't be buying a copy
 
It does appear odd to digitally archiive a wide warm 12" single, upload it to a streamer and then ask people to listen to how good it is.
Why didn't you deal with the crackles, pops, clicks & smears? I assume the noise wasn't from a VST in the processing.
It doesn't sound bad but I can't really tell if it's good audio because it's a soundclick streamer.
Honestly, I'd be embarrassed to ask money for a vinyl rip that hadn't been properly "restored".
I have quite a few 12" singles & EPs. I've digitized/archived the vinyl I have that is unlikely to be released on CD. I did it properly with a good program & TIME. I made sure the gear I used was good and when I play vinyl or CDs I use a decent system. 2.1 at best are the Bose Lifestyle set up (which was interesting but I didn't like it) & at worst, as most are, is a couple of tweets straining and a sub that just thumps - all boxed in fragile plastic that jumps around.
What made vinyl extra creamy on a good stereo was the combo of tweeter, mid range & woofer. If the boxes didn't carry a woofer then at least a Mid range that went reasonably low al in solid cabs that sat still or were nicely stood on spikes.
Luke, as a fellow Aussie (along with Bobbsy) I have to ask if you've been to Tuggerah Lakes because when you miss read/misinterpret you certainly become one of them.
I have a 1/2 speed of Born To Run. Having read about it they stuffed it up over at Columbia because they didn't take into acccount the EQing needed for the speed change. That LP sounds pretty good to me but the bottom end is lacking.
I still buy CDs. Bought some Shoegazer stuff last week and the new Sabbath album a couple of weeks ago ( I had to listen to Ozzy, Iommi & Butler with some sort of decent quality for my 56th birthday - as a teen I said I'd be listening to Sabbs in my rockin' chair so thought I'd better try it). Oh, I don't use Amazon though.

Dude ..... I didn't make any moronic statements .... we were speculating on what you had because you weren't giving much information ..... so you're just another prick with little knowledge of what you're talking about ..... troll more than anything else.
And yes, I briefly listened to a couple ....... they suck because of the lo res streaming as others have pointed out.
And how 'bout this ..... EVERY 2.1 system I'm aware of sucks ..... if you can't name what you have it's because yours is also crap and you don't have balls enough to admit it.

You made assumptions about what gear I was using!! If that ain't the dumbest thing to say about a mix, I don't know what is. You could have ASKED me instead of behaving like some 2yo. Now as for the lo res streaming making it all too hard for you all to hear, what utter BS!! Even at that res, I can hear the music LOUD, CLEAR and WARM. So you can only imagine what the CD sounds like LOL. Keep trolling and you'll make a name for yourself dude. As for my 2.1, why would I bother to tell you what I use seeing you think my mix is crap? Weird request there dude.
