looking for some answers

I have music gear and just starting to try recording multi tracks. i have my headphones coming out of the computer and am getting some delay in sound.
i am not a sound guy so there are some problems and probably hooked up wrong or missing piece of equipment
this is what i have setup so far.

A high end pc with the onboard sound card.
A green room jamhub
a laptop going through the jamhub to play sound tracks
adobe soundbooth cs5

also have a electronic drumkit, guitar mics

this is how i have things setup right now.

the jamhub is coming into the computer by usb and it seems to record great in soundbooth.
lets say i lay out a drum track and want to play my guitar over top.
if i have my headphones hooked up to the jamhub then of course i cant hear the drum track to play over top
so i moved my headphones over to the computer so i can hear the drum track and setup a track to record the guitar.
now i can hear the drum track but when i play the guitar i get latency which is driving me nutz
i changed the settings in soundbooth but it still does it.

not sure what i am doing wrong but im thinking maybe the onboard sound card is crap and need a better card.

Maybe someone knows what im doing wrong and give me some suggestions on how to fix this. just let me know if you need anymore info.

any ideas would be great!!

I don't know the jamhub but I'd expect any USB interface like it to let you hear your pre-recorded tracks through it's headphone output.
If that's the case, the onboard sound should be disabled or, at least, ignored.

Can you select the jamhub as your output device in soundbooth?

the jamhub is awesome. its a basically a mixer that gives each player control of their own mix so you can turn down the loud guy in your mix and then have a master mix for the final output check it out.
i believe that jamhub is selected. im going to go check now.
i also have usb headphones that im testing out to

That's cool, but my point is that if the jamhub works like most audio interfaces, you shouldn't need to mess with USB headphones or built in sound.

You'd probably see better latency results that way too, which is your issue.

It may not work like that though...I'm not certain.

i plugged in the usb headphones and it works better for some reason but there is still just a hair of latency.
my audio hardware interface in preferences doesnt list for default input for the jamhub but has microphone(2-usb audio codec) instead
the usb headphones show up in the default output so that makes sense.
getting closer

Unplug everything except the jamhub.
Open your recording software.
Look for audio outputs.

Are there any, excluding built in sound card?

While the simplicity of the systems precludes multitrack recording...

It seems the jamhub won't show as an output in your DAW.
That means you will have to use built in audio for output, or usb headphones, or a usb/firewire audio interface.

Technically that means you're using one interface for input and another for output, which isn't really ideal.
I didn't actually think you'd be able to on M$ platform, but apparently you're doing it.

If the jamhub has a stereo line output, I'd be inclined to use it as an effects unit going into a separate interface with line inputs.

That way your daw sees one interface and, hopefully, one good driver.

hey guys first my software is adobe audition not sound booth cs5 if that matters
right now it is so close and i am reading up on the audition and there are a few things to try. im heading out for the day but will try tonight or tomorrow and update you if i have some success.

thanks so far
