Tried a few test shots last night...bad lighting and the glare on the stainless upper panel is tough. I'm gonna have to move the machine to a different location to get a more indirect/diffuse light.

Try taking it outside and shooting it an hour before dusk or an hour after sunup. It's what photographers call "magic hour," full of wonderful ideal light for creating magical pictures. I'm sure it'll work for tape decks as well ;)

Softer natural daylight is a good thing for sure, but good indoor shots can be had as well thanks to windows and walls which reflect and disperse light without having to lug around 70 pound tape recorders and let your neighbours know what goodies you have.

Cheers! :)

Yes I suppose you have a point. :b

Maybe wait until 10 or so, and use white cardboard to reflect from the window. Turn off all the overhead lights. Turn off the flash. Use a longer exposure.

well, I took some pics.

I can't upload them though ...... the card seems to be some odd sort of flash card and I seem to remember wifey saying you had to upload them thru the camera and the connector is odd so I gotta ask the wifey.
She's asleep.

Also ..... after taking them I remembered you wanted it powered up which I can't make happen till tomorrow.
So I'll get the ones I took up tomorrow and if no one gets a good one I'll take some more tomorrow night

Thanks for the update, Lt.

The power being on is not essential as I can turn it on through Photoshop, so no need to re-shoot just for that. The main thing I need is just a head on, centered, level shot of the face of the deck...same as the other decks I've posted pics of in the wallpaper thread. Other angles are cool too, but the one described is what I'd call the "money shot". :)

Cheers! :)

Ok Ghost,

I emailed you a few of my initial pictures...the ones that werent REALLY fuzzy.

As I indicated, the main issue is the lighting in my studio space....its generally very soft incandescent ....not good for these type of pictures.
Yeah, they suck.

I need to unhook the machine and move it across the house to get some good daylight.

>>>Occured to me as I was doing all this that there were different colorations of the 3340S series(lower panel/ knobs). You might get some different looks from different members.
I also have a matching 2340s....... maybe try a shot or two of that

Thanks! :)

Got the shots via email and responded back though email.

The 2340s is pretty similar, agreed but the smaller reel capacity does give it a different look which could also be added to the wallpaper thread on its own merits.

Cheers! :)

Hi gang! :)

Just looking to add a few more models to the https://homerecording.com/bbs/gener...-only/tascam-wallpaper-294178/13/#post4070282 thread and was wondering if anyone has a TEAC 3340S in decent shape and who also owns a half decent digital camera and could take a nice clear shot of it?

Believe it or not, there's virtually no decent, head on images of this classic deck on the net as all of them are either too small, shot at awkward angles, shot in poor light or shot too close which causes a fisheye effect that looks cheesy.

What I'm looking for here is a head on, centered, level shot taken without a flash and where you're about 6 to 10 feet back so that you're zooming in, in order to fill up the image frame with the recorder. If you have a tripod for your camera, that would also help at getting a non-blurred image where you can set up the right height with the camera dead level. If you've seen other picks of the decks in that thread, you'll hopefully know what kind of image I'm after here.

If anyone here could do that and either just post the full sized, original image to this thread or email it to me, that would be really nice of you and of course, be given credit in the wallpaper thread for taking the original picture. Regular daylight would be best or defused, (shaded) incandescent light is also OK so long as there's no hard, dark shadows on the deck.

Cheers! :)

Don't holler at me but I have 2 of them in my HOT attic !!!

I won't holler at you but will offer kudos for hauling a 70 pound deck up a ladder to get it up in there...unless you've got an actual staircase for access! :)

Cheers! :)

No staircase dangit but please send me some help to get em down and fixed up and running again HELP !!! :o

Any progress on this yet?

Cheers! :)
yeah it's not any good and I have double gigs the rest of the week , in fact I'm packing the truck right now.
I will attach the better of the two but with your photog standards I'm positive you'll find it unacceptable.

Sorry ..... guess my camera isn't good enough for available light.

If no one gets one for you I WILL set it up with lights and a tripod and all that and get a good one for ya' but be aware I won't be doing anything except whining about my workload until next Mon.
Double gigs every day!
Need the money but it gets rough hauling two sets of gear around.

Thanks for posting that! You absolutely nailed the perspective and shooting from a distance deal that I was after but yeah, the image is way too grainy to survive a clean up of the noise which will eat away at the limited clarity.

technoplayer is going to try some shots with better light tomorrow so I'll wait to see what he comes up with. So don't drag out all the lighting gear just yet.

Thanks again for the effort.

Cheers! :)

sure ..... next week I'll check with you. If you still don't have one I'm sure I can get one for ya'. I just need more light and possibly a different setting on the camera.
It was kinda hard to tell what I had without being able to run to the puter and check it. Now that I have the camera uploading thing under control I'm sure I can get you one.
I'll even wipe the dust off!
:D
But for sure I won't be doing all that if you already have one by then.

^^ 10-4

I'll definitely give a heads up here once I get a keeper so that no one else needs to go through the effort.

Cheers! :)

Blast it, I was at the studio again last night and forgot to take a photo again. Thats coz when I am there I am always doing some work. I will take a photo at some stage. I think you will find a photo of the matching AN-300 dolby unit interesting.

Alan.

I'll look forward to seeing what you come up with! The AN 300 will also be nice to see a good shot of too!

Cheers! :)

Just received a series of shots from technoplayer that look to on the money for all the aspects I was looking for so everyone else can chill and hopefully, I'll have a wallpaper up of the finished results later on today! :)

Thanks again to everyone for participating and to witzenoz, if you still wanted to shot some shots of your AN-300, I would still love to see those and possibly integrate that unit into a variation wallpaper with the 3340. Same head on, centered, level, zoomed in shooting parameters as for the deck.

Cheers! :)
