Multi-Track Recording

Hi all,

I own the Behringer X2442USB Mixer, and use the DAW Reaper. I was wondering if there is ANY way to plug in 6 microphones (for drums) and get each microphone to have its own track on the DAW, this would allow easier editing and EQ'ing.

Not with that mixer - it sums everything to the stereo USB output, as you have found out. You need an Audio Interface with that capability.
 
Ah, that's a shame.

So there is NO WAY, no software, no way to filter the output?

If it only included drums, no cymbals, only direct mics, no overheads and you only every hit one thing at a time, you could conceivably manually edit each drum to its own track, but that's hardly realistic is it? Not to mention taking forever.

Pony up and get one of the cheap Tascams with 8 inputs and use that. There's no glory without expenditure and it's probably less that you spent last time you changed the heads on your drums.
 
I'm afraid all I can do is confirm what the others have told you. That mixer only outputs two channels (i.e. the L/R main mix) to the USB connection to the computer.

I will, however, add a comment that I wish manufacturers would stop being misleading (or at least vague) about the routing capabilities of their mixers. There's no technical reason why individual channels can't be sent to a USB2 or Firewire interface--there a a small number of mixers that do exactly what you want. However, they cost rather more than entry level mixers like your Behringer. If you happen to read this, Uli, please make it clear on your features or specs list that your mixers do main mix only to the USB.

Also they often create more problems by routing the computer output back into the main mix which is another problem...but one for another thread.
