I just bought this new mic and I just got it in the mail today. All i did was connect it to my focusrite 2i2 preamp and tried to record but every time I tried to record i'd get this thumping/windy noise. My room is completely still, no noise at all and It keeps doing this. I can get rid of it by simply lowering the sensitivity of the mic, but what if I need louder vocals. I had mics that worked excellent under high sensitivity. I posted and sample so you could hear what I am talking about. At the end of the sample you can hear me clamping. Also the mic may be completely silent at "medium" sensitivity, but when I clap in front of it...the thumping sound would come and stay for a few minutes.

That's very weird. What are you using to record it and can you try speaking to it? What microphone are you using?

Im using my focusrite 2i2 into my windows 8 pc. I am using mixcraft 6. I am also using a neumann tlm 102. I just connected my old mic and my old mic works perfect, didn't do it at all.

Ah, have you turned on the 48V a.k.a phantom power?

That's weird then, can you make a sample of you speaking into it and stuff?

Sounds to me like there's a problem with the capsule itself. Do you have any warranty for it? If so, send it back for a new one.

Thank you. I will definetly do that. I cant be my preamp because it works with my other mic, both needing phantom 48v. Thank you for your time.

I just plugged in my old mic. and now my old mic is doing it

Well then there is a problem with your Focusrite - does it happen with both mic inputs? Try rebooting your, make sure your drivers for the interface are updated.

Well when I did it with my old mic, I had the sensitivity turned up to the max and had it on left stereo recording by accident, I turned it down and put in on left channel input, no thumping/clipping. I plug in the new neumann, Max out the sensitivity (room still quiet just the cpu fan) CLIPPING/THUMPING LIKE CRAZY. I turn down the sensitivity, clipping/thumping still there. I put the sensitivity on medium...still there. I literally have to put the sensitivity on low to the point where you can't hear the mic to get rid of the thump and clipping.

I fixed it for a while when I changed my asio settings to default. No it works with my speech, but everytime I CLAP, it start to see that thump/clipping in the waves and it stays there for a minute. All my tests take place with the sensitivity on max. But when I turn the sensitivity down just a little, the microphone can withstand the clap and there's no clipping/thumping at all.

nvm its all distance, the further back when I clap the less chance of thumpping. With the sensitivity turned down just a little from max, i can clap 6 feet away and no thumping, any closer and there's thumping. I dont know if its the mic itself or my set up.

I should also note that when I accidently set my DAW to record, I set it to an empty channel, a channel where no mic was plugged in. The sensitivity was on max on that channel too, and when I pressed record, all I heard was clipping and thumping, and again, no mic was plugged into that channel. Im vascilating between sending back the preamp, or the mic. I might send back both I still have warranty on the both of them.

No microphones plugged in and thumping sound? Now that's special.

Even now...both my DAWS are closed, no mics plugged in, and the db indicators are flashing red/orange/green. This thing is literally malfunctioning.
