A Punk Looks at 40 - Greg's birthday song to himself!

Am I the only one that thinks the way you sing "hopefully" is strange? It's like it's drawn out a little long or the cadence is strange. It's like I'm expecting to hear it as "HOPE-fully" or "hopeful-LY" but instead it's "HOPE-FUL-LY" and it sounds strange. Not sure if I articulated that well. But what the fuck do I know? So fuck it. Great mix man.

Thanks dude. I don't know about the enunciation. That's just how I say it. Maybe it's my New Orleans roots. I get asked a lot if I'm from New York or New Jersey.

Good shit as always. Everything is so big sounding but doesn't take up too much space. And killer song.

I had to mention that I LOVE the outro - I assume that's selector twiddling et al.
MOST enjoyable.

Cool! Thanks a lot for checking it out. :)

Thanks again Ray. Yup, that's one of my favorite things about the Les Paul - the Ace Frehley kill switch trick! Roll one of the pickup vols all the way off with the other pickup on, and the middle section of the p/u selector toggle becomes an "off". Flick the switch back and forth and you get that fast cutting in and out sound. It's simple and old school and I like it.

L-O-V-E IT! I'm turning 5-0 in a few years. This will be my anthem!

I like the subtle "happy birthday to you" at the end.

Now I know how it's done!
I've often twiddled but unsuccessfully - now I can play like the big boys.

You've got plenty of cool stuff in here to keep the interest in the arrangement up - love the intro guitar riff and the ska-ish change is a nice texture shift. Happy very-belated birthday man :)

You gotta have a git with separate vol knobs for the pickups! Or you can wire the switch to be "off" in the middle.

Thanks man. :D
Nice Happy B-Day
Thanks a lot. :)

Absolute Rubbish. Except the feedback at the end.

that was o.k.

900th post... Go Me.

a punk looks at 40

nice driving rhythm....
it's got a more modern sound to it, than a 'classic punk' influence...
more like green day than a MC5 or ramones thing...

i dig the clean tones the best....
if it was done on a fender VI or Burns it'd sound more authentic.....

in fact, i'd love to hear a version where all the mid-high gain guitars were taken out, and it was all that clean guitar sound, but just as aggressive.
(you know, not clean classic, but clean dirty)

i think it'd sound heavier.

JMO

sounds mastered a bit heavy.

bass guitar mix needs work.
it's kinda vague.
sounds fine in the cans, not in the bigger speakers

I'm gonna guess sounding heavier would rank as one of the things Greg would have the very least desire for.

Yeah I don't do "heavy". I'm not even sure what that actually means. Sounds lame.

yea, you guys know what i mean.

heavy, is often times, just a choice in guitar or bass tone.

or, a deeper kick drum, or one that just goes THWACK

the word heavy, doesn't mean anything, on it's own, only in context.

unless you are hung up on stuff.

then, it's the end of the world.

I still don't know what it means, so I'll just leave it as is.
