So what's the deal with the hardware module and synth that won't record or play MIDI?
What MIDI interface are you using? Are you on a PC or a Mac?
We should be able to get that part figured out. Which synth module and which keyboard?
Thanks for asking!
I've got a Roland U220 sound module that I want to use to record an original composition
(I used to have a U20, so I picked up this unit on ebay to get the sounds).
I use an M-Audio 25 key midi controller on a PC with
Pro Tools 10.
I just can't quite figure out how to hook it up to do what I want (but I'm close).
I am able to connect the M-audio controller to the U220 via MIDI cables,
and USB from the controller to the DAW and get sounds out of U220 through the DAW using ASIO4all.
What I want to do is to record MIDI tracks in Pro Tools and have them trigger the U220 so I can do some editing (my keyboard skills are non-existant).
I figure I will need to connect
the U220 somehow to the MIDI connections in
my Axe FX II (it has MIDI in and out), set it as the Sound Engine,
get the M-Audio set up as a MIDI controller, create the right kind(s) of track(s), and record my parts.
The song I am working on needs two patches out of the U220 at the same time
(playing two different parts, using two different patches on two separate tracks).
I have been reading on the internet and plan on hitting the book on Pro Tools to get it figured out when I get a chance.
Any conceptual (or concrete, for that matter) advice is welcome.
