no bass through speakers, yes through headphones

Hello. I'm new, so if this is not done right, please forgive me.

I have recently begun using FL Studio. I've been pretty much just working through a set of Behringer studio headphones(have wife, kids, mainly work at night). Having rendered my first song, I tried to play it through just basic computer speakers and noticed there was no bass. I also tried it through another setup I have of Behringer interface/mixer to Alesis monitors and still no bass. Then I tried just using my kid's little cheap headphones and I do get bass through those, just like my studio headphones.

So I obviously want to universally get bass levels no matter what output is playing.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I've had the same problem you're having with the bass dropping out. Best advice Glotrance, never mix with headphones. I don't know what the technical explanation is but it never sounds as good when you play it through speakers.

Play some familiar commercially recorded music through the various systems. That should give you some idea which one is closest to correct.

I'll try remixing and arranging through the Alesis setup and see how it goes

thanks

I did try this as well. Regular released music sounds pretty much the same through all of the outlets.
I'll try tweking a few things

thanks for the reply

The big difference between headphones and speakers is cross bleed. That is, with speakers both ears hear both speakers to some degree but with headphones each ear only hears its own channel. The balance between panned and centered elements is altered. In headphones elements panned to the sides sound quieter since they are only heard with one ear instead of getting into both as with speakers.

Normally you want your studio monitors to be away from walls, but perhaps the Alesis monitors (which I haven't used) are tuned for being against the wall, a common thing in small studios. If so they will be lacking bass if not against/near a wall.

I've got it sounding pretty good through the Alesis monitors. I'm noticing that the bass when listening through the monitors has more of that actual reverberating of the strings sound a real bass has, where as through the headphones, it's more of a smoother, manufactured sound.

I didn't notice any difference moving them from the wall however
