Every morning I get to work, and every morning I feel a overwhelming urge to be recording and pretty much by the time my day is about finished, my motivation has all but disapeared.

I guess thats life....?

Quit your job! Or stay up late, wake up hungover, crawl to work, nap in the afternoon under your desk, go home at 6 and chug a couple of beers and record! :listeningmusic:

For me, it's not so much that my motivation has all but disapeared, more a case that after waking up at 3.15am, delivering stationery, drinks, food, tables, computers, whatever, all round London and driving all over the place and maybe {if I'm not falling asleep at traffic lights} going for a swim to excercise my core muscles to stop my back from pinging again and putting me out of action for 9 days, when I get home, I'm often pretty tired, even though it's only midday. I used to pick up the kids from school but now they make their own way home, I might grab a few hours sleep. But what I do alot is force myself to do some recording or mixing, I'm still at it when the kids come in. What I do find is that even when I'm really tired, if I force myself to get on with it, the tiredness goes almost instantaneously, as I'm setting up. The only time it returns is when I'm listening back to what I've just done. Then I might crash out for 10 minutes !

That's life, and if you let it, it will beat you like, well, bad.

You have to get up and get down. It's the lot of the common man. Welcome to the club.

Two words: Red Bull.

I honestly don't think I've ever done anything remotely resembling music or recording without a constant stream of 108mg+ of caffeine per hour. I'm talking minimum. Once it gets to be 3 AM you can probably double that. Works for me.

There's a difference between caffiene buzz and motivation! :laughings:

If you're not motivated, its sometimes necessary to give yourself a break from playing/recording. Other times, you need to 'find your muse' again - go see some shows and listen to others play, get a new instrument, or just play some at the local music store. Sometimes I am 'demotivated', but kick the DAW up anyway, and start working on a recent project, before I know it an hour or two has flown by and I'm wishing I didn't have to call it a night because of work the next day!

I just twist a doob.
:)

Kind of like..."fake it til ya make it".
:thumbs up:
