Hey,

This is instrumental for now. I'm going to do the vocals probably later today.

But while I'm waiting to record them, I need opinions on the drum sound in this, particularly the snare. I'm using my usual snare, with a nice "pop" to it. But, after doing the drum track to this, I changed the skin on my other (metal) snare and love the deeper sound I'm getting from it.

I'm wondering if the snare sound in this recording suits the rest of the feel of this, or if it's a little thin and too pop-y for this. I don't want to go through the trouble of re-recording the drums with the other snare if this works as it is.

So, this snare: Yay or nay?

Thanx

Crazy (no vox)

Snare spot on unless competes with vox. Love the sound and it has a nice pop. Needs vox.

Sounds good to me RAMI. the bass, kick & snare all cut through well. A darker snare would certainly alter the tone of the piece.
I look forward to the vocals because this musically suggests one of your cynical/sarcastic/clever word plays.
On another tack - any particular reason for posting a 36 meg wav. file? There are few folk I'd download a file that big to listen to - you, obviously, are one of them.

Aw shit. Did I post a wave file? Right, now I know why. I never post anything un-finished like this, so I just did a quick mix in REAPER and rendered it to a wave by mistake.

I'll replace it with an MP3 in a second.

Thanx for the advice and comments. :)

Well it's hard to make a choice without hearing the other one. This certainly sounds good. Maybe just do a little section with the other snare for comparison. I'd love to hear it.

Yeah, you're right. I should have just put it up and asked how it sounds. If anyone mentioned the snare being wrong for the tune, it would have maybe confirmed what I was afraid of. I've gotten used to it now, though, which isn't necessarilly a good thing. I'll see how I feel about it after the vocals are done and it's mixed. It's an easy tune to re-do if I have to.

Why not just sample the other snare and drumagog it? Won't be 100% the same as re-recording, but it may give you the best of both, and just takes a few minutes.

Anyway, just an idea.

Hmmm....Never though of that. But, I wonder how much of an honest representation I'd get without having the other snare in the overheads as well?

I don't have Drum-a-gog anyway, but just for the sake of educating myself, how would I do that? Record a few snare hits, cut them up and throw them in Drum-a-gog, which then gets inserted in the channel as an effect?

Yep, that's why I said not 100%. But, you'll have some pop from the OH's and the meat from the deeper snare, which may be better than either one alone.

As far as drumagog, yeah, that's essentially how it works. I think Drumagog may even cut them up for you, can't remember for sure, as it's been a while since I've used it for that.

Thanx for the help, guys.

I got side-tracked from doing the vocals for it. Had to do a few drum tracks for people. I'll post this tune when it's finished.

Thanx again.
