A mess is putting it lightly! :D

I'll tell you how I pretty much knew it was that lamp, and it was not because I caught sight of it in any of the shots. It was based on a post you made maybe two years back in another thread related to the MM1000 and you had mentioned having that light. So I just made an educated guess that you used it in the D-SLR shots. :)

But I had no idea you ended up putting the camera up on top of the recorder to get front and center shots! That's going above and beyond in every sense of the word! :D

Anyways, I'm just glad you didn't kill or maim yourself trying to get those shots.

The MM-1000 is useful for many purposes...its great for climbing on. No tipping THAT beast. :D I climb on it to reach the windows...or to look through a camera.

Great picture, thanks. As i am unable to find one for sale. I am working to develop one myself from scratch, wireless. (in my offtime) It will work on the TSR8, MSR16, MSR24, 42, 52, 48, 58, and will add track arming. I want to see one closely to understand the functions and the usability, so i can make sure to add all the same features.

That sounds like an ambitious project and especially so to do wirelessly too. Out of the box, the AQ-65 was designed to work with the MS-16, 58, 52, 48, 44, 42 and 388 and perhaps a few others from that era. The next series of decks switched over to the accessory 2 port connector style plug, so your transceiver base unit will have to accommodate both connection plug styles.

hi yes. i have both interfaces working now in a prototype. The accessory 2 which is serial and the traditional accessory that is parallel. With the accessory 2 you can get track arming on the modern machines. All the other options/functions are the same. I am doing it for fun and for having an autolocator with my MS16. I will post progress soon, maybe with a small video doing a demo.

It will be great if you can help me on designing a concept remote image, for the autolocator that i am working on that is computer based. It is basically the functions of the AQ-65 + i wanted to add the location points as text, so you can actually label them. I think of any other better person on earth to help do this. (RtR lover+tascam user+design skills).

So, a mock up drawing of an AQ 65 with labeling space for the 10 points plus track arming functionality too? And what about course and fine pitch controls?

Just give me a specific set of functions and I can whip that up, no problem.

Here's the initial list in no particular order:

Transport buttons
Tape time (M:S:F)
Pitch display in % (one digit, one decimal)
Pitch control coarse
Pitch control fine
Repeat X-Y
Auto Play
Spool indicator
Counter Reset
Track arming (8 tracks for now) with LED indicators
All tracks off
All tracks on
Safe button (to protect tracks from being accidentally armed)
List of preset locations (with names) not sure what will be the best font to use in there
Add column with a switch next to it in order to select it for repeat or for punch in/out
Tape speed in IPS with 2 decimal points
Keypad to enter a manual location in H:M:S:F
CUE (add a location point to the list - for user to enter the name)
Tape lifter control
Search

That is whay i can think of. I know it is a lot... :) these are all the functions that i'll be able to make work so far.

That's quite a list! :D

While I was waiting to hear back from you, I started working on a "Master Controller" which basically covered off everything you mentioned, though there is full 16 track arming facilities on it.

I only wish TASCAM had actually made this in the first place, all in one unit, but they did come pretty close.

looks good. i can use this as a base to create some artwork and add the other functions. or if you can help on that, it'll be great. LIke the list for the presets on the side for example.

Well, I'm not really clear on some of the items that you listed, so it would probably be best if you did your own drawing of all of the functions and buttons, (even a rough pencil sketch on paper and then scanned), and then I'd have a much clearer idea of exactly what you're after.

Some things like the spooling function are built into the AQ-65 by design, even though it's not labeled directly, doing the quick double tap on either fast wind mode will initiate that or exit out of it, just like on your MS16. Things like the repeat looping functionality are also in there by default. But I guess because you don't have that unit or it's owner's manual, those things wouldn't be apparent to you.

This one's a redo for the 16:9 screen format that I did a couple of years back from a member here, Jovas, who was kind enough to send me some full sized shots of his 80-8.

I've gotten a bit better at my Photoshop chops since then so hopefully this rendition will look a bit clearer and straighter then the first attempt back in 2010.

Busy bee, Jeff!

That "Master Controller" is VERY cool!!! :D

And I'm actually working on the 3M preamps right now...need to update my "M-64 Story" thread, but I've got the M-64 transport racked up, finished polishing a couple transport parts, and now I've got the faces of the M-23 electronics I'm going to be using for the time being with the transport disassembled for some sweetbeats treatment...polishing aluminum knob caps, cleaning knobs...basically just deep cleaning everything you see from the face and doing a couple minor repairs. Once that's done I'll take some face-on shots of the pair powered up. They're cleaning up really nice.

You did a lot of work on that shot of the preamp, Jeff...you put knobs on the record and repro level pots...made the VU meter glow...obviously "repainted" the putty-colored face panel...capped off the little lense hole on the right (which I think is only used if one of the Dynatrack cards is installed)...I'm sure there is a whole HOST of other tweaks you did. Looks great.

Love that one of the 80-8 too. That is an important iconic machine.

Thanks for the feedback on the shots! They do indeed keep me busy, which is good because I have a lot of spare time on my hands.

Glad to hear you're working on the 3M gear and cleaning it up. That will definitely cut down on use of the digital hamburger helper! :)

And yeah, many, many tweaks were employed on the face shot of the channel. The drop down lid was more then painted. It was in fact created from scratch in Photoshop, as the shot I was working from was the one with the door open and you propping the unit up with your hand to take the shot. So there was also a bunch of shadow elimination as each part on the face was producing hard shadows. Basically, I used that shot because it was the best capture of that humongous meter, which I really love the look of!

When you do the next round of pictures of those units, try to do the zoomed in from a distance set up, if at all possible as the near field, wide view warps the knobs outwardly and un-naturally too much.
