It's so awesome to get help from great engineers like you guys! You definitely know your stuff. Those are great ideas and things to consider. As for the DAW track volume, I believe it was averaging at about -10 to -15 db, and I had the track at Unity Gain. I figured that would be suitable but I guess my judgement isn't necessarily the right way. I'll try the extension chord from control room idea (will plug it straight into same power conditioner as the interface and pres) and I'll try experimenting with track volume. Looks like I'm going to be getting some good exercise!

It's not extremely urgent as first off, I can always re-track, which will be cleaner, and the song has only about half the tracks recorded as of yet, so when I get the other tracks in there and see how it sounds, if I still want a different taste, I'll update at that point. Mixing other stuff in the meantime.

Thanks so much!

the recording level isn't the problem. running through the Di backwards raises everything up 20db, including background noise. If you run that into a distorted tube amp, the noise can get really ugly. Especially if the amp is sensitive to how you load the input.

That's craziness, but it makes sense. Perhaps I'll get some use out of the pads I have on the input of the new DI (which would be the output). There are two -20dB pads that you can stack to make -40. Should be interesting.

Even with a real reamp box, it won't necessarily sound exactly the same as plugging a guitar into the amp. there are toomany variables. With passive pickups, the amp and guitar will react to each other and affect the tone. this doesn't happen while reamping.
