only half mixed and I've been working on it for quite a while now, finally getting to the end. please listen!

Great playing - everything seems to be in a good stereo postion and the levels are okay for me - maybe the drums could come up just a tad. However, it sounds like there's a blanket over the mix...it sounds like there's a lot of compression and/or the high end has been lopped off. I guess what I'm saying is I could use some more highs or openness. I'm no producer though so take my comments with a big grain of salt... Long song.... :-)

oh yeah I think I know why that blanket thing is, because when I recorded the bass it was very bassy, and I havent edited the bass at all, so hopefully that feeling will go away when I do that, thanks for listening though :)

and btw, everything the guitar plays is actually pretty easy, I've just used easy licks, which sound a lot harder than they are, and layered them.

Edit: oh yeah, I tend to right longish songs, but this one is particularly long, I wrote the different parts and put them together and tehy just turned out like that, did you listen to all of it?

hey Ollie Havent seen you round much. Hope your ok mate?
I'll listen tommorow as soundcloud only works on internet explorer for me (not my usual browser)
great to see you.

well I went to canada for 2 weeks, then when I got back I had about a week of just meeting up with friends, then I went up to this lodge my parents had just bought with my mum and some friends for a week, came back and shortly after went with my parents and my sisters and my girlfriend back to the lodge then got back on monday. I havent really had time to do any recording, which means I dont really have any questions or reasons to come here I guess.
But obviously I have been doing some recording the last couple of days

Sorry but I think you still need to put more work into the mix. The lack of ambience on the central guitar makes the mix sound mono whenever the two side guitars aren't playing. It also lacks presence compared to the side guitars. The bass definitely needs to have some work on it - compression and EQ so it doesn't do that big swell thing when it overpowers the mix.

I did like the panned guitar at 4:17 and the section after it.

Yeah, as I said, it isnt finished, and I actually mentioned in my earlier comment about the bass. I haven't done any eq or compression yet, just arranged it. I will actually be splitting the guitar and panning it either side and then EQing them so it isnt so mono, although I think for the solo I will keep it as it is because I want the lead guitars to be the main focus

Sounds good
Guitars sound a little muddy and the drums sound boxy.
The arrangements so full i'm having a hard time picturing how a melody would fit in the picture.
this isnt really my genre so i could be completely wrong about this.
really like the clean guitar at the end and the panning.
I'd put more highs on the bass next time too (at the amp) i just think it would sit better in the mix.
Good work mate i wish i could have done this at your age. and you have come a long way in a short time too
Hope you had a good holiday.
