I'm wondering if you really need to get a good head voice in order to sing metal/rock (such as Nirvana/Slipknot/Metallica/etc etc). Should I rather concentrate on chest and mixed voice rather than the whole spectrum?

Also, I should add that I'm a bass-baritone. So far in covering Nirvana songs, I've never had to enter my head voice.

Even if you dont use yor head voice, i think you should concentrate on everything. It makes you more confident with your voice, and you learn to control your voice much better. AND, im pretty sure you are going to grow in musical taste, away from just Nirvana/'Tallica/Slipknot, and then you may come across songs where you need to use your head voice!
Just my thoughts! :)

Good luck!

I gave it some thought after making this (stupid) thread and that's what I concluded. Thank you for your reply, sir :)

Also, sometimes headvoice just isn't the right way to do it is it?
I mean, for certain parts yes of course... but if you want to reach high points but WITH power and stuff, you shouldn't use headvoice I think.

That depends on the song! I agree with you, but still disagree. Haha! You can train your headvoice to become more powerful. Mine isn't though, need to improve it. As everything else, headvoice is a tool. sometimes it fits, sometimes it doesn't.

Define "need" :D

Sure plenty have made it without using much if any at all head voice, but I think it is just one more weapon to have in your arsenal should you choose to pursue it! Can't hurt :)
