Bored of Canada
(I've been here 2 years and I still post the majority of my questions in the newbies place :laughings:
Not sure where I couldve put this though. Feel free to move it.)

I'm trying to learn more about synths and designing sounds on them. I've seen Ethan Winers youtube video explaining things and that certainly has helped me understand things. ADSR, Oscillators, Envelopes, Waves and the like.
But I'm still looking for more in depth viewing/reading material if anyone has any.
Not spoon feeding stuff, but something more along the lines of "here is this sound. and here is how it's created". Unless it's like a magician not giving away his secrets thing
I'm mainly looking for some guidance since I've got Komplete. And it has tons of programs that I'm overwhelmed with. FM8, Reaktor, Massive, Kontakt. Some detailed tutorial for those would be awesome. Especially if it has info that I can apply to other synths that are built into DAWs and stuff.

:RTFM:

This answer might not be helpful at all, but thats how i've learned:
Move the buttons and listen what they do. You can start with simpler synth so it isn't so confusing.
...at least it's more fun than reading a book. :D

anyway, Focal press has released a book named Sound synthesis and sampling
Amazon.com: Sound Synthesis and Sampling, Third Edition (Music Technology) (9780240521053): Martin Russ: Books

Yeah, looks like that's going to be my best bet.

That book does look like something I need to pick up.

Meanwhile, I guess I should try to find tutorials on the specific programs.
I'll take it one at a time!

I've struggled for many years with basic synth programming.

Becoming a Synthesizer Wizard by Simon Cann has a good basic tutorial.

I think it even includes a link to a basic single oscillator synth with a couple of waveforms
that you can use to work out the examples in the book.

IIRC, I think there are 2000 pages of instructions in the owner's manual for Reaktor,
good luck!

sounds cool.
seems like there's quite a bit of reading material on amazon :D

and yeah 2000 pages. that seems about right. #lostinreaktor5
