Cubase 5 messes wav files completely up after importing from SX3. A little urgent.

Hi guys. I'm Ari, and I'm new to this forum. Looking forward to meet you all :-)

I'm having a problem when importing files from Cubase SX3 to cubase 5. Some of the wav files, or all sometimes randomly gets messed up.
By messed up I mean that cubase5 plays the wrong wav file, makes digital noises, switches form one wav file to another(while in the middle of one).

E.g: I have Audio01 and Audio02; Cubase starts playing Audio01 (as it should), then in the middle of Audio01 it starts playing parts of Audio02 instead! Then when Audio01 is finished and Audio02 should be played, it might play some of it and then start making digital noises, or just start the file with a loud digital noise then just go silent on me..

Audio 3 on the other hand, MIGHT play just fine.

I tried installing cubase 6 LE, and had the same problem. I cannot for the life of me understand what this might be.
Anyone have any experience with this? If not, is there a way to bounce the audio with data on where they should be in the event editor, and save cut-up/chopped/edited audio files etc?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I would check that there isn't a sample rate mismatch.

You could also try switching your drivers.

Restarting your system!

Trashing your preferences!

Never seen this with dozens of projects started on 3 that I opened and completed on 5. In fact - I don't remember any kind of 'import' at all - the projects just opened and I used them. When you say 'import' what do you mean?

With Import I mean simply opening the Project file.

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies:-)

With Import I mean simply opening the Project file. Now I suddenly had the same problem in a project made in cubase 5. One of the audio files on one of my tracks simply didn't work. Whe I resampled it once it worked at a higher tempo, then I resampled it back and.. nothing..

What I did to resolve it (after a loong creative-killing headache), was to delete the mediabay database file in the appdata folder. I will try this with my older projects as well.
But I really wonder WHY this happens. It is really annoying, and takes my focus away from making music. So anyone know what partially corrupts(?) the preset files? Or how this affects my audio files?

I don't know the answer - but I would quickly make sure that you have a backup of everything...

Wow, that's a quick reply ;-)

And a very good idea...

This is driving me nuts! NOT resolved.

This is driving me nuts! It's like cubase can't read the audiopool properly or something.

Sometimes the audio that I recorded or imported suddenly won't work (with artifacts of other audioclips or the ddl of one of the audio tracks), until I process it.
E.g I reverse the audio and back again. This sometimes work.

Does anyone have ANY idea??

I'm using Cubase 5, with reason rewire, project is 44100Khz 32bit(float)..
Oh! And sometimes when I mess around too much with the non-working audio, cubase sometimes suddenly slow down and won't playback any of the track properly.*

OK - now that you say artifacts of other audio clips I am starting lean more towards the idea that the files may be corrupted. u did backup right?

Yeah I have multiple backups. But the audio files themselves play okay in vlc, itunes, mediaplayer etc.. So it's definitely Cubase, or my soundcard(?) But my soundcard works perfectly in all other applications. Also the audio play ok if I use them in reason. I have the same problem in cubase 6.. So maybe it's a windows 7 problem with cubase. I don't know.

I'm using a M-Audio Firewire 410 card.

OK then - stuff playing fine in other apps is a GOOD sign. Backups are a good thing. I will dig around a bit later and see if I come up with anything.
