The mix sounds small and lacks punch. The drums in particular I'd expect to hear across the sound stage.

Your vocalist, LOL, reminds me of a wildebeast I met once, although he probably doesn't smell as bad. Did you pitch the vocals down?

I think I heard a drum stick collision at 44 sec. ?

I played a part of it to my 7 year old daughter and it scared the shit out of her. LOL. I know nothing about this genre, but that drummer can spin the kicks!

I can't tell if a mix sounds small or lacks punch lol. Not that the vocals needed to be pitched down, but just to add to the nastiness I used AVOX Mutator :D

My kids are head bangers :D

I agree with bulls hit. It does sounds pretty weak and thin for a song that's supposed to be teh brootalz. The drums and bass have no life or power whatsoever. Too much focus on the guitars and those dumb vocals has cost the song it's balls.

This kind of music has become a parody of itself. :laughings:

I haven't really been able to tell or figure out how to get things the way I want them. I'll reference other albums that I think are pretty good and I just cant get things to match up. Not with just this kind of music, but any music I work on.

Just like all other kinds of music :D

Real good guitar playing. I don't have a good perspective on vocals in this genre - they all sound alike to me.

I think you could go a long way by turning down the guitars a bit and turning up the bass. You might want to retrack the bass - it lacks some low end I think.

Thanks I'll try those things out when I get some time to work on it. The vocals are kind of just experimental, but I know what you mean.

Ok, this is more like what I remember from before except with a conspicuous lack of any anal references.

I think others have hit on the potential mix issues. Sounds like you really know your way around the guitar on this material. Drums could be more of a force here I think...vocals sound sufficiently inhuman.

Thanks man. I wrote those riffs in one session, mastered and recorded them all within a few hours. I spent that last 6 months working on my guitar playing. Tons of exercisers and any guitar book I could find that had some advanced lessons and stuff. I would skip around through them and only learn styles that sounded really cool, classical, evil, moody etc. I'm no where near finished with anything concerning guitar playing. My goal is to be able to play clearly and articulately without the sloppiness and as little noise as possible. I haven't been able to reach high speeds yet without getting sloppy. I'm shooting for around 160 BPM, but right now I'm in between 120 and 132 comfortably depending what I'm playing and how complex it is lol.

Not I just need to do the same for my recording chops. I'm lacking some needed gear, seems like it's always something else I need. I cant seem to find the right sounds, the right tones and can't tell for shit if my mix is any good or not. It's a difficult and frustrating thing...

Vocals are horrible, even for the genre. Literally sounds like gargling nonsense. :p

Agree the drums and bass lack punch. Also agree the guitar playing is solid. I'd try just raising the entire drums a couple dbs, then raise the lower frequencies on the kick drum and bass guitar a couple dbs more.

If you read the lyrics along with the song you'll be able to understand what I'm saying :D

Maybe. But you do realize a very small percentage of music listeners read along? If it's a requirement then you've immeiately cut out 95% of your audience from understanding what you're trying to say. But if the message is that unimportant, maybe just do instrumentals?

Oh yeah I get what you mean. Take into consideration that this is a kind of niche music that only certain types of people will actually enjoy. So, it's not actually meant to be "commercially" appealing in the same terms that popular music is. If someone did want to understand what I was saying they could simply read the lyrics. A lot of normal music with real singing is hard to understand as well and people argue over what's being said until they go and read the lyrics :P

I think you already know what I think about the vocals for this genre.
Regardless of the style I think they are too up font.
Bass needs terosterone - some definition & thump.
The drums well - always too busy as a genre I feel - you bass drum isn't very clicky (good by me) for the genre.
Guitars: I really like a few of the lines/progressions but they do sound a little thin - how many guitar tracks have you built up to aim for a monster heavy sound?

4, but I'm just doing it all wrong. My DI tones suck and nothing I do can make them sound like the real deal. So, for now I retire the metal shit until I can afford a decent amp. Thinking about a knucklehead. I can write a lot of songs until then :D

You guys can look more of my non-metal stuff :P

FP,
A good amp well mic'd will do everything for you, you're right about that.
I've only just recently bought a proper speaker cab for guitar - for 30 years I've been using a bass cab & wondering where the top end of the tone went.
I now hope that a Marshall 4 X 12 with my late 70's Marshall 100 watt head will bring me a little more of what I'm after as well. I have yet to use it in a recording as I'm still learning how the new combo works & sounds.
The last track I did (Thanatogenous) had about 16 guitar tracks - they did build up to something evnetually (aside from noise that is).

It's just that I watch a lot of videos and read up on how other people do it. No way in hell I can simulate the sound of real tube distortion for extreme metal. You can get some sounds that aren't quite as high gain. Some pretty good tones that sound like marshals and other types of amps, but still not very extreme or even heavy sounding. So, it's either sacrifice on what I want out of my music wait until I can do it right. Even with all the drum programs in the world it's still something not quite as special as a drummer who just understands you musically and is going for the same goals musically. I'll probably be doing a lot of acoustic stuff for a while. Should be cool :D

I agree with the thinness point. Tell us, what are you running everything through, besides a DI box. Amp sims, which ones, which effects, and eq and compression? On that kind of music often less is better, if you know what I mean. It's not that different from good old raw punk music of the 70's.
