Feel Your Love - feedback please

Been busy with a few things lately and haven't done much with music - save the odd afternoon of practicing. So yesterday I got back on the wagon and spent the after noon re-recording all the guitars on this tune. Then I spend last night and this morning remixing. Time to step away and get another set of ears to analyze this mix.

Guitars, Vocals - me
Bass - mjhamil

The MP3 is 320KPS so it may take a few seconds to load. I wanted a decent bitrate and none of my sites stream 320MP3's....

Very nice Gerry, the harmonized guitar parts add a really cool character to the tune.
It brought Gerry Rafferty (Stuck in the Middle with you, Baker Street) to mind as soon as the vocal harmonies came out as well.
You definitely have a knack for happy songs!
Congrats on a great song.

Thanks Ray - I have a few left to work on before I'm done. It's a good incentive ot rework the old tunes and tighten them up a little.

Thanks Tony - Yeah I can hear the Gerry Rafferty now that you mention it. I would imagine when I write I subconsciously refer back to these old artists' material. My thought has always been - you usually write based on what you've learned musically. Now if I could write like some of my heros I'd be a lot happier...:D

Still listening on a few systems and think I have some tweaking...
 
I liked the melody. Very listenable. Nice singing and good playing. Drums sounded real good - maybe raise the snare a couple dbs.

I'm hearing a buildup around maybe 500hz in the vocal and the guitars.

I'm also hearing a little ear-dart every once in a while on the lead vocal. Like a shot of 2700hz on a syllable here and there.
 
Thanks TripleM - the drums are a stereo track - already mixed by Poeticintensity. I'm going to get all the drum tracks in the future so I can practice mixing them. That 500hz build up may be what I heard on my wife's truck stereo. I'll check it out. If you can expand on what an ear dart is :) point out the ear-dart syllable I'll have a listen...

If you can point out a sample time or two that would be great - maybe Sonar 6.0 has an eq automation I can use (not sure I'm at work :) ) to fix it.
 
I like it Gerry...nice jangly guitar, I really like the lead tone (whats the set up?)..the drums and bass are great too


almost has a cat stevens vibe or something...different from your others


Im not qualified enough to spot anything in the mix, all sounded present and clear

Thanks man - The lead is my Eric Clapton Stratocaster neck pickup, with it's boost/tone control on 10, through my JCM900 clean channel. There's some subtle delay/eq from my GP-8 and reverb from the amp.
 
The vocals sound smooth and nice, but the backing music sounds kind of dark and muddy. Mainly the drums and bass. They're pretty dark. The guitars have a sweet jangle to them. Who says Marshalls can't get clean? I'd look for more pop and clarity from the drums and get the bass some presence. Otherwise it's a nice little tune.

A couple of ear darts:

:17 I can't make out the word, it's on the line, "We were two kids ???..." Right at the question marks.

:45 on the "Make my life ..." line

:54 on the word "upon"

:56 on the line "... Feel your love" the words "feel" and "love"
 
Very nice melody ido - the vocals are slick. The doubling is really very tight. Well done there.

The mix, other than the vocals, seems a little dark and subdued to me. The drums in particular. The perfomances are all good though. I think you could get the mix to pop a little more to match the level of the song itself, which is very well crafted.

I challenge you to write a song that does not contain the word "love", "loving" or "lovin" anywhere :p! ;)
 
The drums sound a little buried. The vocals sound great the way they are, but the other instruments sound a tiny bit muffled. I'd maybe bring them up a little bit too. Overall it's a nice, upbeat song. I like the arrangement.

See my response thread - haha - I actually have another song too, but heat is right - it may not say Love but it heavily implies it. I'm either focused or have OCD.
