I had a Shure KSM 27 with the same problem and I chased it for ever. I finally had to send it into them to fix ..... they never told me what was wrong.
Could of been the capsule?

Ahh what a shame. No closure dude. :(

IDK, I'll see how I feel tomorrow.
I might try dual layer. I'll keep ya posted.

Try giving Michael Joly An email or PM shout ~ maybe he has light to shine on this.

Ok.
I went up to two layers today just to see.
Started afresh again. New mesh clean surface etc.

Noise is still there but only really audible at very high gain.

I think this is gonna have to do. :(

Admittedly the glue might not be 100% cured yet, so I'll test again tomorrow,
but either way I'm out.

Thanks for all the advice.

So was it just ambient RF interference not necessarily from within your home?

There is a rather lengthy discussion in the yahoo micbuilders group about rf filtering. I was thinking ground loop, but maybe it was/is RFI.

What? the mic?

Presonus firestudio mobile into macbook pro.

If the macbook is charging i hear hum which is loudest when I'm near the mic, but ceases when i touch the mic/laptop body.

If it's not charging the above doesn't happen, but I still pick up the same hum.
It's much more distant and isn't changed by me touching things. It's just constant.

Moving the mic around the room makes it louder/quieter so the later is obviously household appliances/electrics, but like i say, no other condensers pick it up.

The charging part is interesting. So does it p/u any hum when you're running on batteries only? Switching power supplies can inject noise.

HEre is the RF link on yahoo: (actually a discussion of "feedthru capacitor" but maybe some insight there?)

Yahoo! Groups

Yeah, I've described how it acts running on battery just a few posts back.

Thanks for that link but listen guys! It's fixed :) :) :)

100% fixed.

I re did everything (again), but instead of using the conductive glue, this time i just rolled up little lines of wire wool.
Used that as a cushion between grill and mic, clamped it down and glued in place with normal glue.

So, turns out the conductive glue is shite then! lol.

Maybe I'll try the single mesh thing again some day and pay the money for silver epoxy.

Thanks guys.

Screw that, lol. I think one of them has a dodgy solder joint or something. It was touch and go closing it up so that way she stays!

Besides, I'm broke Henry. You know that :p

edit* You got me thinking. I listened to some comparisons of stock - headbasket mod - electronics mod.

The difference between stock and headbasket mod is pretty much what I expected. Stock = a little dull, headbasket = nice and clear.

The electronics mod wasn't as obvious a difference to me, but I did notice a lot more detail and power in the bass.

Now I'm wondering if I should look into it! lol.

What's the parts list for the up grade electronic mod?

This guy has a list.

Do you have 219s yourself?

I did some recording last night; Preparation work for an acoustic cd I'm doing soon.

Miced the guy up in my living room with the 219s spaced pair first, then xy, (both live takes), and then with guitar and vox separately.

The mics don't really suit his voice but I was pretty happy with the image and the sound of the guitar.

I'll maybe post up clips if I do anything with the recordings.

Here's one of the demos.

Spaced pair on guitar, single 219 for vocal overdub.

Harmonies and uke were added later too. Also used single 219.
