Help with using a gate to trigger a sampler

Ok, I've got a drum track, but towards the end of the song the snare starts to sound really horrible and pingy, so I took a sample of a nice sounding snare beat from the start, and rendered it seperately. I then made a new track and imported the sample into the ReaSampleOmatic VST, combined with a gate on the original snare track to trigger the sampler. That all works fine, and it sounds good. The problem is trying to set up the gate so that all the snare hits in a fill get picked up. I can get it to trigger the sampler for all the hits, but I have hold and release both on 0, and this is affecting the sound of the snare, as I only get a very short "click" sound. I've made it so that the send is only a midi signal, but it still insists on changing the sound of the second track. Sorry if that's a bit hard to follow, but any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure I follow. You're saying you don't like the sound of the snare because you've set such a small release, and it sounds like a click? Why don't you increase the release ?

Because if I increase the release, the bar on the left goes down slower, which means it won't fall below the threashold fast enough to trigger for the next snare hit. I know it's quite hard to describe.

Ok I get what you're saying. I've never had that problem using a trigger, you can almost always find a certain spot where everything works out fine. If you're sure you've tried everything, and the peoblem is only near the end of the song, you could try to manually put in the samples. It's about a half hours work.

Ok, I've discovered the problem. I though it was strange that the gate would work on the track it's sending to, even if it's only sending midi signals. It turns out it was just the settings on the sampler. I gave it a bit more sustain and release and now it sounds great!

I must spread some around before giving it to jimmy again. I'm gonna need more release ;)

You said to give it more release on the Gate, not on the sampler.

Actually, saads didn't specify where to give more release, though he had the answer. A sense of humor or thanks would probably be cool. Just saying. :D

Haha, he's hell bent on not giving me any credit ! For the record I did mean the trigger, but it doesn't matter, I'm just glad you got your snare sounding right.
