please help with vocals

i use power tracks pro audio 11 have a lot of vst plugins compressers
reverb eq.s etc
i have just recorded a girl who.s vocal is very sharp in tone
her pitch is fine
what could i use make her sound a little less pearcing

Try rolling off a little EQ wherever her tone is pearcing...each voice is different.

I suggest you find the frequency of that offending sharp tone. I do this using notch filtering technique. It works by sweeping through a parametric EQ bands by cutting dB. You know you make the right adjustment if hits that sharp tone frequency and the dB cut effectively removes the problematic tone. just make sure you don't cut them drastically that it affects the overall vocal character. For serious EQ issues I would rather re-record the vocals and do it right directly at the source.

Also how does it sound in the mix? Sometimes a little sharper sound on vocals works well.

Have you compressed at all? Some compressors tame shrillness a little. I use an 1176 and it really mellows out vocals (I know that sounds weird to those who use 1176s).

Try out different mics and pre amps if you have the chance to re-record her voice. This is a crucial part of the process as certain voices suit certain mics.
As for the Mixing you will want to make some cuts in the high mids and maybe even the highs to mellow the sound, and you can try a de-esser also to catch any stray louder harsh parts of the recordings.
Using editing to fade in and out can help get rid of harsh parts.
Try not to compress too much unless it really needs it, as compressing will bring out the harshness more so.
