Hey everyone.

I am new to recording and I just ordered my mics.

I got an Audix DP7 mic set. I ordered it from the US should be here (Australia) in a few weeks. The only thing is that I am in Europe working atm so I won't be able to get tinkering until January!! Oh well.

I am also going to buy a Focusrite Saffire pro 40 as my interface. What do you reckon of these? I have a macbook pro and I'll probably use Logic Pro.

Man I can't wait to get recording!!

Simon

I take it you're a drummer? :D

Cool, I've never used the Audix set, but you should have a blast. Be sure to stick around here to learn more or hit us up with any questions! I remember the first time I tried setting up everything...brain overload :o

Haha yeah i am a drummer. I will definitely be popping my head in here once I get started. I have a feeling that my brain will melt when I start trying to get everything going. One question. Can I close mic a hit hat and a side snare at the same time effectively. Or should I just mic the side snare?

You can do both Hi and snare ..... Just remember with drums that bleed isn't a bad thing. ;)

Like with the same mic? Ehhh...it'd be tricky to close mic, I think, since the snare is so much louder than the hat. I'd stick one of the OHs above it and play around with it till you get a good sound. Or you can always pick up a spare sm57 later on for the side snare :)

Yeah I'll just grab an SM57 and bang it on the side snare. The OH's will be sweet enough for the hats.

I've used a predecessor to the DP7 kit (with mainly the same mics) and it was excellent. A main difference with the DP series (instead of the older D) is that they've improved the mounting hardware.

I think you'll be pleased with your kit.

Welcome Simon.

I've heard many excellent comments on most of those mics.

Have fun!

Sounds great guys. One question. What are the overheads like? The ADX-51's? how do they fair?
