Does anyone have any good, bad, ugly stories about selling their music on iTunes?
I’m just wondering if you found the process worthwhile?

Thanks in advance.

It's not a bad way to get mass exposure, but itunes takes a huge chunk of the profits :/

yes so far I've made 70 cents off itunes!

I'm rich :D

I understand. I'm wondering percentage how much Gross vs. Net you end up with from iTune sales compared with the average Grammy artist?

In other words if you end up with 20 percent profit from itunes, is 20 percent about what Lady Gaga (assuming she wrote the song) gets after marketing, etc.?

I have no idea.

thanks.

iTunes only gives you "mass exposure" if people know you're on there. It's very unlikely that anyone will just stumble on to your music. iTunes is no better than any other MP3 retailer. People still have to somehow find out you're there.

whatever the percentage you get to keep, if no one knows you're there, then any percentage of no sales is nothing. However even a small percentage of millions and millions of downloads worldwide adds up

iTunes won't push, market and create a buzz for you. That's why most of the big names still need labels because without constant marketing, hype building, photo ops, TV appearances, live shows, web presence, facebook updates and so on you quickly become irrelevant. If you're starting out from nothing then no one knows who the hell you are or what your band is called or even that you can be found on iTunes or any other retailer, or why they should care for that matter

Itunes is great if you're Justin Beiber. Not so much if you're me....

I would say like most of those guys said, build a fan base first, then go for iTunes. Otherwise it will be a waste of time and possibly money depending on how you go about getting on there.
