JK about the sexy part.lol

I have under $500 to spend and will be hooking it up to either a rme babyface or the duet2 ( I haven't decided yet)

I do mainly voiceover commentaries for my youtube channel and a little rap
I have over 12,000 subscribers and i will put a link below to my video so you can hear what my voice sounds like. Currently Im using the at3035 mic and the m-audi firewire solo (which i will be selling)

Listen to the audio in the video and my rap song I included in the video
I want to have something that will sound good for both
My setup now doesn't capture the natural sound and body of my voice. It tends to make it higher pitched and just plain crappy it seems like

Thanks guys, Ive literally been doing hours upon hours of reading and would love to know what your opinions are.
I really really do appreciate any help!!!

The Duet has more preamp gain. May be better choice for the SM7b. :)

Maybe you can find out what Barry White used to use.

Allthough I think 50% of sexy vocals is the vocalist himself, singing/talking low, relaxed and with lots of air.

I just found this
"Professionals that are concerned with the quality of digital analog conversion will buy an outboard DAC that connects to that interface's digital input/outputs. These effectively bypass the DACs on the interface."

Can i just buy one of these and will it bypass the m-audio interface, that way I can spend the money on a better quality preamp??

If use this method then the m-audio won't have any effect on the sound quality will it, and i can keep it?

Isn't the reason the m-audio firewire solo will make be a weak link in the chain and ruin the quality because of the DAC?

Or am I wrong??

The main links in the chain are microphone, preamp, and converter.

The maudio firewire solo probably doesn't have the greatest preamps or converters, but the chances are upgrading preamps would be enough of a difference to make it worth while.

If you bought a preamp with a line output, you'd still be relying on the maudio conversion.

If you bought a preamp with Spdif (digital) output, you be using it's own built in conversion.

It's made more complicated though, because many interfaces have a line input that is still controlled by the gain knob, and therefore doesn't truly bypass the preamp circuit.
To find out if this is the case, plug in a keyboard, guitar, anything at all that you can monitor, then turn the gain up and down to see if it has effect.

Hope that's useful.

Very good info
So what do you think of the ISA One Digital Mic Pres

Since Im using iMac and the preamp has digital output, can't I just hook it up the my iMacs digital input?

Will there be a noticeable difference in the quality if I use my iMacs input and not use the m-audio at all?

Thanks for the info its really helpful!!!
