Better to MIC amp than plug directly to mixer with no preamp?

In a live performance lighting gives the audience a spark of bliss that the performers pick up on and elevating the whole show to a new level.

That's not vibe, that's just basic human intuition.

I would say those are the same thing...or very close cousins.

Is intuition "measuarble"...?
Not all people have the same level or depth of intuition....and it's not just about personal experiences.
Some folks just pick up on the "unmeasurable" stuff more than others.

People have premonitions all the time...and often many play out as anticipated.
Premonitions are also unmeasurable.

You're just romanticizing music. That's a pretty common weakness in many people. I don't know why they go that route, but they do. I suppose they need music to fulfill some void in their life. They need to think that the act of listening to or playing music is some enlightening or otherworldly experience. I'm just not into giving normal every day things more credit than they deserve.

Premonitions? Lol. Now you're just being stupid. I guess your magic 8-ball is really magic too, huh? Psychics? :laughings:

What is "romance"....?
Vibe, mojo, premonition and some intuition. :)

It ain't just about music...though yes, some type of music has more "power" than another...and that's a personal thing, different from one to the next. If you feel nothing special from music and it offers no personal fulfillment...why do it?

Romance is doing whatever you have to do to get a woman to get naked so you can probe her openings. A woman that feels special will let you devour her. Nothing special or magic about that.

Exactly, and that subjectivity is why imaginary notions like vibe, groove, and feel are empty and meaningless terms that need to be buried.

It's about whatever works for someone...in romance or music.
You're trying to reduce it down to nothing more than a physical/analytical process/experience...and maybe that's what works for you.

No, that's what it is. It's not about what works for me or what doesn't. A vibrating string makes a sound and you like it or you don't. That's all there is to it.

Some of the most fascinating to~ings and fro~ings in HR take place between Miroslav and Greg. I could see the two of them in the same band. It would be music to raise the dead......then slay them again.

not even almost true although you don't need to groove to play blast beats.

That's because groove isn't real. It's just a dumb musician term that gets thrown around so the user sounds hip. Groove can't be defined and no one agrees on what it actually is, so it's just nonsensical lingo.

Aaah, but there are some things that are never truly defined that different people apply different meanings to yet generally use in the same way. Like 'play'.
I must admit, I know what I mean by feel, groove and vibe. The beauty and folly of such terms is that they're intangible, yet many have some idea of what they mean by them and kind of gamble that others have an idea of what they mean.
Even if they don't ! :D

You know what's worse than cliche lingo like feel and groove? The blues face. The stupid, fake, trying-to-look-cool constipated expression of some jackass going through the torturous exercise of bending a note. I want to kill blues facers.

Yin and Yang at it's ultimate. :D

There are times when someone is playing and they get into a zone and don't even realize they are making facial expressions to go with the music...but yeah, you can definitely see it when someone is just putting on a face, and yeah, it looks totally stupid.
Like the guy has played the same stupid licks for the same stupid song 1000 times before, and every time he hits certain notes or plays certain sections of the lead...he has his bag of faces that are put on...on cue.
I would much rather they just stand there and play...no need for the theatrical grimaces....even if most of the crowd buys it.

I was watching Santana on some live/recent show....and he was doing all the crowd-pleasing faces as he worked his way through songs he's played a million times.
I like Santana, some of the best guitar tone ever, and I dig that he has to put on a show...but you could see the faces were just part of the act.

On a big, pro level, I can understand the need for that...but when it's the guy in some dinky bar acting like he's oozing all this emotion over something like Stormy Monday....ahh, I don't buy it. :D

Feel is real, even if it's hard to describe or pin down. It's like the difference between driving a big American car from the 70s and driving a British sports car. On a twisty road an MG is more fun than a Chevy, and you'll probably make better time for reasons beyond simple performance numbers. Same with playing guitar. A sim may accurately emulate the sound of an amp, but the experience of playing through a sim is different from playing through an amp, so even if the recorded tone is indistinguishable the performance will be different.

Thank you.
Been saying that many times over the years...but you nailed it.

Pro-sim folks (or anti-amp) always focus their argument on how it sounds in the mix...which isn't the main argument for me, though I'll still hear some sims when they are crappy even in a mix.
It's during the playing and recording when it's totally obvious, and so yeah, it DOES affect the performance...
...and yes, the vibe too! :D

Not to call you out Greg, but I would love to see one of your non inspired, emotionless performances that involve absolutely no facial expression whatsoever, while you bash out a punk tune. I promise to not get a vibe from it. :D

Maybe for you, but not for everyone, which is why none of this feel shit is real or matters at all.

I'm often criticized for looking bored when I play live. I can't help it. I usually am bored. And I try to not draw any attention to myself. So no, you won't get any vibe from it, but that's because vibe isn't real. It has nothing to do with my lack of facial expression.

That's ALL that matters in home recording. Go play live if you wanna imagine vibes and feel and unicorns and all that gay shit. If getting good recorded sound is your goal, a modern quality sim will do it......and not even you, the snobbiest of them all, will be able to tell the difference.
