A Tune

I remember this one. This version seems to have more of an in the face quality compared to the previous version which if I remember correctly was a lot more polite. It's got quite a poppy melody and yet you're rockin out the vocal which is cool. I would run the drums, or at least the kick and snare to another bus and compress the bejesus out of them slowish attack and fast release and if you've got a maximiser handy you could drop it on there too, and blend them back into the mix so they're not so buried

Hey im like 3 seconds new here and this is the fist track i have listened to and man its so cool!!! i play metal but i can appreciate this dude! ha ha classic song man!

archadeko, Bullsy, and jamox - thank you all for the ears and thoughts.

I worked on this a bit last night. I hope to get a little more time tonight and put up (yet another) mix.

Bullsy - you have a real good memory. I pulled this one out and listened to the lead vocals. They were, in my opinion, way too tame. So I retracked them with "a little less melody - a little more screaming."

Can't update original post any longer.

So I'll attach mix #4 here.

Collect 'em all!!

I attempted to strengthen the low end. I gave more low end to the kick and the bass. I also turned up the levels on each. Turned down everything else except the drums.

It doesn't quite have the low end power of a commercial release, but I didn't want to muck things up down there.

Thoughts?

Yeah dude, way better. I can hear the drums throughout now. I still think you can get more separation between the kick and bass, but to me this is definitely a big improvement.

Sweet. Good to hear. I'll listen for the kick/bass stuff you're talking about and see what I can do. Thanks for the (many) listens.

You're very welcome. For what it's worth, I think you're a good contributor here in the clinic and give other people way more feedback than you ask for, so I'll listen as many times as you want me to.

Hey, pretty good tune, Triple!
I compared mix 1 with 4 and the improvement is there allright.;)
Pretty good work!

the mix in general is a bit too much on the thin & sharp side.
i like the guitar tone, but it seems you cut the GTRs a bit too high. let it breathe.

I've listened to each version at least a few times and until #4 the changes were too subtle for me to pick up on too much. I think this latest mix addresses the glue deficit that greg mentioned early on. Meaning; more cohesive overall. I like the direction you're going, and repeated listenings have revealed new stuff each time. For some reason I didn't get the Ali MacGraw reference until now. Nice.

joey, karumba, and heat - thanks to each of you.

Anyone who doesn't get the Ali McGraw reference should do a google image search of her. Prrrrrrr. :)
