Ok, so I bought a used Tascam 2488, with a manual. My problem is I just can't seem to get anything right. I follow the manual, and it makes it sound easy enough, but no go. Maybe its my inexperience, maybe I bought a tweeky board. Do I track 4 drum mics on to one track, or 4? I tried 4 and then bounce them on to one. Can't seem to make it bounce. The 'bounce mode' indicator is on, but when I listen back the tracks are in the same spot. Any guitar we plug in to the dedicated guitar in is completely over loaded, no matter how low I turn the trim. So, now we mic the amp and that works better but it overloads very easily. Do I really have to go to school to use this thing?!?.

You track 4 drum mics into 4 separate channels. Assign each input to it's own channel. You can then bounce them (though it should be to 2 tracks), but I would avoid doing that if you want to be able to control each drum individually.

When you bounce, the original tracks will still be there. You have to mute them and turn up the track you bounced them to if you want to hear the results of the bounce.

As far as the guitar over-loading, you must be tracking LOUD. Or, you have an already distorted guitar going through the internal effects of the 2488....or something. A miced guitar cab has to be pretty loud to over-load the inputs of the 2488.

There has to be a db pad per channel if not on the physical work station than within the channel settings.

Yes, each channel has a db pad in the EQ menu. But I dom't think that matters if he's over-loading the in-puts, which are before the channel strips.

:) But still I got to learn a few things here about the Tascam 2488.

Never ceases to amaze me that newbs stumble over some issue which seems massive to them and in frustration go to all the trouble of registering for this place, post the question, it gets answered, and that's the last we hear from the OP...

If it was such a big issue you'd think they'd be back every 10 minutes looking for an answer and have the courtesy to say "thanks..."

But let's give this one the benefit of the doubt for a bit... only a day or so...
