Pro Tools for Dell Laptop?

Hey, was just wondering if you could run pro tools normally on a Dell (Inspiron) Laptop?

1: I have an M-Audio Keyboard and an M-Audio (fast track) to record my instruments and vocals.

2: What else in addition to what i already have, do i need? BEST recommendations please. Try to list cheap stuff to if possible like: headphones, or speakers, etc.. firewire.. WHATEVER! lol. You gotta tell ME!

I'm going to soon receive my Pro Tools 9 AS WELL. But can I work with my keyboard, laptop, and Fast Track for now? like make beats? etc..
 
i suppose you could run it but brand of a laptop doesnt really matter what are the specs of the laptop? thats what matters ever brand and model have different specs.
 
avid are fussy and they suggest that you only run protools on certified hardware....

having said that, i never looked at that list and i've never had a problem.

Currently i run PT9 on a dell vostro, which is basically just an inspiron.

If you run PT9, you dont need anything else, cos it'll happy use your built in sound card for playback.


Ideally though, you'd want some sort of usb or firewire interface and a pair of monitors for high quality and accurate playback.

Tell us what you hope to use it for.

Cool, so you're saying it IS possible for MY laptop right? How is pro tools working for you? Are you happy with it? Any problems at ALL? And is it possible if you could send me a link for a proper firewire device or usb for my Inspiron? I appreciate all this! the fact that i even got a REPLY to my questions lol.. And i plan on using Pro Tools for the Love of MUSIC! I have beats in my head that i need to get out!
 
I've had no probs on my dell, and i can't imagine you would have either.

You're good to go.

I didn't see the mentioned maudio fast track at first;

Unless you're wanting more simultaneous inputs, the fast track will be fine.
 
Before you buy anything else go and read the page on Avid's website which covers compatibility of Pro Tools with windows versions and computer components.

If you don't do this Avid will give you no help at all getting it working, and no money back if it doesn't run because your machine might not be officially supported.

yes, it might work, but it might not too.

Also, might be worth checking out the competition software-wise. If you're insistant on Pro Tools, it's likely to be more expensive, so here's a page on multitrack recording software

When you've got past that, have a look at the rest of this series on building a home studio which should give you an idea of "what else you need".
