I did a search and not a lot is covered in terms of models, hence the solutions part of the title.

I am not really looking at cost factors, but I looked at things like Genelecs and their compact systems are a bit what I would call psychotic expensive.

Also, want it to be a decent full range set-up, so to me, a sub is kind of important in what is being sought out.

What I am familiar with is;

Blue Sky eXo2; This seems like a good alternative

Blue Sky MediaDesk 2.1 mk II; This is also not bad, except the system is kind of big or pushing it in terms of what you would call compact.

Focal XS 2.1; Another decent looking set-up, but the way it connects to your computer is via usb and from what I am understanding, you would not be adjusting them through your audio interface, Bad?

Here is a Genelec set:
Genelec 8020.LSE TriPak | Sweetwater.com
Notice it's 2000 dollars and a little crazy priced. They probably would make me pee in my undies, but whatever, I am saying that is a bit pricey.

I guess here is another Genelec system that I would say is the max price compact system, but just to be fair to Gen, they have one;

Why is a sub important - are you doing hip hop or house or something?

You still haven't picked your monitors? You might want to try this post in the Hip Hop Production forum. Those guys will probably be using the Sub Woofer Enabled Monitors. Most other forms of music do not use sub-woofers in the monitors. Have you listened to any regular monitors? The KRK 6's and 8's have a pretty heavy duty bass presence.
