Recording coming out of one side of headset/speakers

I am not sure if this is the norm. But when I record it is coming out of only one side of the headphones/speakers.

I am using a PC, Behringer MIC, definitely need a new soundcard. But I was just curious. Also. The DB while recording only shows recording on the "top" line of the track and not the "bottom".

If I load an instrumental, you can see noise coming from both the + and - of the DB

CakeWalk Sonar 7 but also does the same with Acid, and others. Would a new soundcard fix this? I was thinking some protools USB hardware.

Anything would be helpful!
 
Sounds like you are only recording on one channel which is panned left.
 
You are recording mono sources to a stereo track. Set up your tracking properly in CW. i.e. mono tracks for mono inputs and stereo tracks for stereo inputs.
 
NOOO idea how to do that. Real odd, I can use the simple sound recorder on Vista it is giving me an error.

Anyone have a clue how I can do this. Using Vista. I appreciate any help and will research it myself as well.

Is it giving you an error, like a popup window that says "Error #1234", or is it just recording the mono source to one track of a stereo file? If it's recording to one side of stereo it is not giving you an error, you are making an error. There is a difference. Read your Cakewalk manual for instructions on how to create a mono track for recording a mono source. The OS has nothing to do with it.
 
When you add an audio track in CW you have to select the input and output source/destination.

If you click on the input box it should open a menu that displays all the available inputs. You are selecting a stereo pair rather than "Left XYZ Record 1".
 
It seems that when I select the "Left" input it will eliminate the double line and sound will play out of both side of the headset. Is this what you guys have been telling me. I have the choice of choosing left, right, or mixed. I tried mixed, didn't work. Tried left, and it did so I haven't even bothered with right.

I think you've got it.
 
Don't think of it as "left" and "right" --- Think of it as "one" and "two" or "a" and "b" or something.

1=1 no matter what. Mono source, mono track, have a nice day.

Mono source to stereo track = one side. And that's stereo -- Stereo is the difference between left and right.
