Well I just started messing around with this technique on my 424mkII and really like the effect. The only problem Im having is with the quality of the sound of the track that it is applied to.
What I want to do is just have it on the opening word at the start of a song.So the first word just 'whoooshes in'.
I have been messing around with just singing the first four or five words of a song and tracking to track one then flipping the tape. When I play it backwards, which is now track 4,I send that backward track through an alesis midiverb and only add the reverb to the first word and let it ring out, while recording this to track 3.
Still with me......

Now when I flip the tape back over to listen to the results, which would be on track 2,the sound quality is not too good. Its not as clear as the the original part on track1.The reverse reverb effect works fine though. Its sounds like the clarity and volume have been sucked ou of it.

Would this loss in sound quality be due to the fact the signal was recorded through the midiverb and bounced to another track?
I never really have sound problems like this when bouncing regularly.
Hope this all makes sense.

Well, part of the signal degradation is due to the generation loss inherent in this process. You're making a recording of a recording!

Also, do you have dbx engaged for the "Pre-Verb" track? Try this again with dbx disengaged. You may be experiencing decoding errors because this track was recorded 'backward' - it may be causing dbx decoding artifacts and it is likely to blame for the low volume and high-mid frequency loss.

Thanks lo.fi.
So if I turn off DBX when trying this, can it be or should it be turned back on when playing back?
Thanks again.

If you record the track with dbx turned off, then the track should be played back with dbx off as well. Good luck!!

TRUE reverse reverb is the Holy Grail of sound processing. The ability to electronically clean up a muddy or too-live room would be golden... IF it could be done.

Just sayin'.

What do you mean by 'true reverse reverb'? Reverse reverb cannot exist in nature so I don't think there is anything you could call 'true'. Just sayin :)
