I see deaf people
just recorded this over the weekend and mixed it today...a bit more dub than dubstep with the added guitars...and a bit more cheerful than normal

hope its sounds OK...not as stereophonic as last weeks remix but I like it

added this simple visualization so i could host it on youtube

Points I loved about this one: Arrangement. Loved the smacking bit in the middle over the flute. Loved the flute. Amazing how you can get it to sound natural, yet fit with electronic music.

You were right about the spatiality. Not quite as 3-D as your other stuff, but definitely not bad. Though I never listen to this genre, and can barely gut a single listen, I really enjoyed your arrangement. For what it is, this was awesome.

Thanks for dragging your ears through it :D

the flutes a 12 bit sample played on an old S-50...does sound good, by accident though lol

I think the mix is there but I was worried about the arrangement as I dropped a pad and chops out of this to make it sparser and was worried about it, its a little jerky

dunno if its a keeper but it was good fun...especially trying to get a cheap reggae guitar sound from a jazz box :)

thanks for listening and taking time to comment again man

Sounded good to me. Plenty of stuff going on to keep the listener engaged. So many instrumentals don't do that.

Curious - which parts were recorded and which ones were canned?

Maybe check the low end on a larger playback system. It's pretty "umphy" down there. Might be over rumbly on a big-ass system.

I dont have a big ass system...just my KRK 8's :(

Canned..as in synth?

the guitar parts are two guitars and a v-amp, the drums are software, iDrum and SD2...the synths are a moog fatty slim, a korg micro-X, and Vanguard VSTi..the FX noises are from various sample packs..the Kung Fu samples are from netflix :D

I was most interested in the Kung Fu samples. :)

Thanks.

Cool. Sounds great to me mix-wise. I too really liked the flute - both the sound of it and the way it was used. I did hear a faint skank guitar in there which sounded pretty nice. The prominent, sorta meaty synth sound was very cool especially when it first kicks in after the intro. Those kind of synth sounds you do really well.

Did you refer to this one as dub because of the dubbed kung fu dialog?
See, when I think of dub, I think of dub reggae, like Lee Scratch Perry - ever heard his stuff? That dude was nuts, but I love his sound. Anyway, this is obviously way more high tech and modern and whatnot - very cool in its own right. Another hit! Well done.

Sorry - I'm always hitting you with this stuff - treating you like you're the sub-genre professor or something :p :).

yeah thats me skanking..on a jazz box lol...I need to buy a cheap tele if Im going to so more stuff like that...but I had the hollowbody plugged in :)

I used to love Lee Perry...even had the upsetter box set..Im no fan of reggae but I get the old trojan stuff when it was just like bad soul...to be honest all my favourite music is the worst produced stuff..60s garage, trojan ska, northern soul..love it all...dub is the only form of reggae i can listen to if pushed..

I just called this more dub as it had the skanking guitars in it..the flutes a great sound huh? bought a replacement drive for my S-50 and Ive got about 30 floppies with all sorts of crappy sampled goodness from way back

I think Im going to go in this direction for a while...at least try and get enough songs that could be in one album...I have 29 recorded tracks and no three belong together!!

Thanks for listening again Pete...Im back up at 6am again..happened last year after a few months off..happening again :D

Great job Keith,

Some very unique sounds, I'd really love to work with you on something some day to see what could be done. A chorus hook and Pop vocal arrangements over something like this would be killer. Really creative work.

Pete

P.S.
Did Greg get banned?

yeah hes banned..but it was for two weeks so he should be back this week...there was a bit of a purge..you have my email dont you as I might end up on a permanent ban soon :(

thanks for listening Pete..Id love to do something with you, your works great..got to finish a tune with heat and maybe one more so if you have any ideas how to approach it or if you want me to get the bass and beats together first lemme know

Cool Ah Grasshopper intro.
The bass notes after than remind me of the Yellow Orchestra.
I like reggae & enjoy dub as it's more out there - funny that revolutionary music like reggae was SOOOOO flemulaic - I suppose rap went through that phase too.
Enjoyable little jaunt - it could go big time 3D with a wider stereo field but I quite like it as is.
Did you feel tempted to actually go real dub some parts?
I'll wait for another listen before commenting further - it certainly was a fun listen.

Sounds pretty good.

No real nits from me.

Think of it as "dub" for people who dont like reggae lol

naw its just a bit of fun, especially the kung fu theme...kung fu sample sound great..I always remember Shaolin Buddha Finger by Depthcharge being a old favourite of mine..I couldnt make this dub if I wanted to Ray..I dont know the genre well enough other than some black uhuru and prince jammy stuff my old flatmates used to play..funny as it turns out one of them a dub producer back in London now but I dont think he does the internet thing

the 3d stuff is just how the track goes...at times I think its a bit gimmicky so I have to slap my panning wrist ;)
this is a remix i did last week with more spacial stuff going on

The video thing seems a little too much work for me just now so Ive bought some visualization software so I can at least put a youtube channel together...it was really inexpensive and is better than watching a blank screen...whatcha think?

Keith, If you could be so kind as to send me your current Email I'd appreciate it, just in case we lose connection.

Pete

Dude I like all of your songs, but this might be my favorite. I don't think I have heard Dub before, but I was thinking this had a sort of reggae feel to it. Sounded damned good to me.

Have a good one dude.
