I wasn't sure where to post this question? My receiver that is roughly 11 or so years old has been in storage for the past 8 years, I recently unpacked it, I noticed that
during play back of any component, there is a fraction of silence every 3 or 4 seconds. All connections are firm and solid. Can't seem to figure out what is causing this, and
what test is needed to narrow it down? I appreciate any help.

I just noticed tonight after unplugging everything, and all I used for sound was head
phones. The quick out/in of the sound remains, also now I noticed if you try to adjust
the bass or treble + or - the sound cuts out completely? I hate to throw this receiver
out, if I can save it I will. Any help is appreciated. Please email me at

itsme61701@aol.com thanks!

Sounds (no pun intended) like the power amp protection circuitry doing it's thing. I'd check for corrosion on the PCB board, clean it off with some no-residue electronics spray cleaner.

If you get this, thank you for the advice. I am not an expert on electronics but I had this receiver since late 1999 and it was used for
only 2.5 years, then is was put away since a few months ago but still never set up yet, just been sitting here until a few weeks ago
when I noticed the problem? I will try what you said. The only other thing like I mentioned as an add on is the fact when I try the
treble and or bass control up or down just even a notch, the sound cuts out completely until you set them back to mid level "0".
Thanks again. Maybe I can make a small video to show what I am talking about?

Dirty bass and treble pots, and probably dirty balance control and volume controls as well. Get some contact lube and spray all the pots and contacts (buttons) and the problem may go away.

Tried all the above

Well I went and got some can of air and spray cleaner for the insides of my receiver.
Cleaned it all as much as possible especially the areas that are causing problems.
No luck it still is doing it. So I guess it may be shot. :(

There could be a dry solder joint or broken solder joint around where the tone controls are soldered to the circuit board, have a good look at the solder joints with a magnifying glass and give the tone controls a gentle push to see if there is any movement. This could have happened if the front of the amp received a knock while stored.

If there is a bad solder joint you just have to give it a touch with the soldering iron and it will come good.

Cheers
Alan.

That's why I am glad I posted here. I am not by no means an expert on this stuff.
That is a very good idea to look into. If anyone here that posted, knows the insides
of this Pioneer receiver, I took it apart very carefully, pulled this front board away
that was just behind the front of receiver, and found 2 rows of small electronic
square like buttons that lined up with the plastic front piece, so when you pushed on
the front controls it would engage one those squares. I will look into the bass/treble
buttons on broken solder connections. IF that is the case, I will then to figure out
why the music stops and goes every 2 seconds??? How can I possibly figure what
to look for on that? Thanks again in advance.
