My current equipment consists of a Akai MPK25 and a Strat w/mini amp & 4 pedals.
My current software is Ableton and Reason 4.
Then my computer is top notch Windows 7 based, and no good speakers or sound card.

Pretty much I am returning a graphics card and an Archos 101 that I got with school money, that will equal roughtly 450$. Then I will get about 150$ here soon for babysitting my cousins dogs.

I figured I need an external/internal sound card and studio monitors.
I read around and I am not sure which products would best suit my needs.

So far I have considered the Pod UX2 or a Mbox 2 mini for my interface.
For monitors I was looking at the BX5a's, Fostex PM0.4's, or anything around 200$

I wanted to know which parts I should consider, if I want to record guitar and with mics? I figured studio monitors are what I really need, so I would need an interface to.

I forgot to add; I was afraid of spend to little on parts, but then I don't want to spend a whole bunch neither.

For my own fun, I don't need anything super special beyond working and learning. I play with my midi controller, and just want to add guitar and voice to it!

You definitely need an interface. I'm still old school with a soundcard, so I can't recommend a specific unit from experience, but I'll tell you the one I'm looking at for myself is M-Audio Fasttrack Pro - $199 at Musicians Friend.

I think an interface is key. If you have a nice interface, you do not even need a sound card as all your sound I/O will take place through your interface. I have an M-Audio Profire 2626. It handles all my in and out audio. You probably could go with a smaller interface though for your needs such as the ones supercreep and moresound mentioned. But with a good interface, you never will need to deal with a soundcard.

Some interfaces are soundcards. They aren't always external USB boxes. ;)

I really like the UX2, because its cheap, simple and all in one. Then it is setup perfectly for a guitar!

If I got something like the Maudio cards like the delta's or audiophile, I would need to get a pre-amp and a mixer.
But I would need something Maudio or Avid, If i plan on using Pro-Tools.

But I have been more concerned with which Studio Monitors to get! My Phillips 2.1 speakers made it abundantly clear yesterday that they can't handle more than 2-3 tracks going.

I was looking at the Fostex PM0.4, Mackie MR5, KRK Rockit 5, and also the Alesis M1 active 520.
The fostex and Alesis were the cheapest, but I wasn't to sure on the quality of them?

I was wondering about the studio monitors and how essential they are.

I saw read some things and watched a few videos, and people would use PA systems like the Phonic Powerpod instead of studio monitors?

This would give me more recreational use and a much louder system. But I do know that the studio monitors even if they are only 150$ a pair, would still have a good clean crisp sound making it easier to hear my recordings.

I just need some help choosing, because I am not fully qualified on recording.

The interface I get, I want it to work nicely with windows 7 ultimate 64bit, and can handle Abelton Suite and Reason 4.
I would like to get Pro Tools, because it seems like a standard for PC users!

Before you can understand RP you need to understand Austrian School theory.

When you understand that you'll see why RP is a POS.

And then you can still go fuck yourself.

I am not to sure of this Tascam, from what i have read it seems to be lame.

The Maudios just seem to be more money just because they can interact with Pro Tools directly.

For someone like me who just wants to invest in nice studio monitors, and have a port to put my guitar into, so that I could record and play, and use my programs for sound FX's and stuff.

But I also am afraid of bad drivers with getting any interface

Top notch what???

Laptop??? PC???

Got Firewire?

Post some specs.

Do you wanna use Ableton or PT?

I have a built Desktop with windows 7 64 bit ultimate, 2xUSB 3.0 and 10x2.0, 3xeSata, S/PDIF 1xoptical and 1x Coaxial and Firewire 1394a 6pin and 4pin. Then 8gb memory, 2tb HD, 120gb SSD.
I

I currently have CuBase 5, Reason 4, and Ableton Suite.

I want to setup my Guitar to record through any of these programs. I only have a midi controller(MPK25) which I can do piano and drums with.

The UX2 seemed more up my alley, but I want to start building a Music Room, and so I want to start off by setting up a recording station, preferably with a good interface and nice studio monitors.
