Putting a Mixer through a Single input Audio interface?

here you go this product covers all of your bases except for monitors and mics. you can record directly to it or use it as an 8 input usb interface to run into your favorite daw.

then you should still have a little money afterwards for software, mics, pre's, whatever else you might need. oh and dont forget mic stands and a pop filter. headphones, etc.

thanks man! i saw one of them a while back and had completely slipped my mind! definately getting one, of them.
also anyone have suggesttions for mic or guitar preamps? i was looking at the ART Pro MPAII would it take up 2 inputs on the interface because it has 2 inputs on the preamp?

I looked for that R16 at musiciansfriend, but couldn't find it. I guess they don't sell them. The R16 has been getting good reviews. I've read a lot of good things about it.

As far as mic suggestions...what instruments will you be recording?
 
ahh i'll be recording my band (heavy screamo type stuff) as well as my solo (which would mostly just be vocals being recorded as its mostly sampling/midi) stuff as well as a an acoustic duo i do which would include violins, pianos, possibly a sitar and alot of different percussion, i.e. djembe's, tablas etc.
so quite a few diff things, but next month or so i'll be able to afford quite a few mics, so suggest whatever mics, not just lower priced ones!

Be sure to look at the Phonic Firewire mixers. You might find one at a very reasonable price on Craigslist or ebay or even here at HR. Mic pre's aren't touted as being as great as other manufacturers, but I don't think they're bad. Most of my songs go through them, they sound okay.

Although they are mixers, the audio signal that is streamed to the computer is pre-faders, so the actual mixer part is not affecting the audio. This is desirable. You don't want to tweak on your audio until you hear it with the rest of your tracks. I don't believe the Alesis has that capability.

Hello All! I’m looking for just about the same thing, a mixer that will send all tracks independently to the DAW so the Phonic Helix Board 12 Channel looks like a great option for me vs. the M-Audio Ultra 8R. But my question is typically how many tracks can be returned back to the board from the DAW for mixing? I will be using Reaper.

With the Phonic, it is 2. But you don't need more than that because you are not actually mixing on the board. You mix within the software.
