more advice - PLEASE READ

Hi,

as my memory on this computer is like full, I am getting a new computer to record.

I am swaying towards the PC because of the price of the mac but some people say the mac is alot better.

I have read the other posts but just want some more info such as If i get a PC, do I need to have it just for recording with no internet connection?

Is there a great difference in PC + MAC for recording.

There is no "great difference" between Mac and PC for recording purposes. Many people have been led to believe this because Apple are marketing geniuses.

You don't have to keep your studio PC isolated from the world, but you should be careful not to bog it down with random programs. I have my studio PC set up with a wireless internet card (that I have to switch off when I record as it causes static/pops in the audio) but it is dedicated to recording.

So you think it'd be okay with Windows Live Messenger and an internet connection as long as I disconnected it whenever I was recording?

you are fine with either. they both work. even though i use a mac, i do get very annoyed with apple and their advertising as well.

i have a mac Im just getting used to and a PC as my main daw..

they both do the same...the Mac will do it quicker though..I have a similar spec'd Vaio and the macbook is way faster when it comes to starting up and/or transferring files

not a deal breaker though...

Do you mean the hard drive or RAM? Either should be expandable... unless other parts of your computer are outdated, why don't you just buy more memory rather than a whole new system?

In general, the computer has a full memory as it is a family computer and I have read that a computer with frequent internet connection and lots of large files on it can result in jumpy recordings.

I would rather have a computer dedicated to recording.

Having a computer dedicated to recording is your best bet. As well as a nice external HDD to record to. In terms of whether or not a Mac or a PC is better you should go with the Operating System that you feel the most comfortable/familiar with. If you want to get the most out of you're hardware and software you'll need to tweak some aspects of the operating system. That being said, there are tons of excellent tutorials and vids concerning this online, and tips/tweaks are usually included in the soft/hardware's documentation.

Most software and hardware will work with either platform because the only companies who actually care whether or not you use MAC or WIN computer are apple and windows. Though there are people online that will argue otherwise
