Which Mixer Would be a Better fit?

Hi, I am about ready to purchase a new mixer and only need 2 mic pres with 2 stereo Line ins for a couple of synths. I would like to keep costs to around $600-$700.

I am thinking of the Soundcraft M4 mixer which will cost me around $600.

Or... Would it be worth the added cost to consider the Allen & Heath MIXWIZARD WZ3 12?

Which one would be the best choice for someone who is only doing at home recording Voice Over work, with music creation in the DAW. I do not plan on using the mixer for live or on the road work.

Hey, for your requirements, I'm curious why you're even thinking of a mixer. You should just get an interface. two mic pres and 2 line inputs, you'll find one much cheaper than your budget of $600. Take a look at this one....

People always have this misconception that they need a mixer to record when, really, all the functions of a mixer are done in the computer. Just need an interface and software like Cubase, Sonar, etc.

Look up some reviews and look up the features specific to each board, then go to a professional audio store and see if they have any sitting out to try and figure out which one you like the feel and sound of better. See if you like both and make the decision... if they have similar sounds and similar features, then just buy the cheaper one, unless you REALLY like the way the more expensive one looks because we all know that the better it looks, the more impressed you'll be with your mixes in the end. Don't forget that... it's the most important piece of knowledge you'll be able to glean from this forum.
 
Listen to what Chili says. Look at some multiple input interfaces. It really doesn't sound like you NEED a mixer.
 
You know, Chili makes a lot of sense. It looks like I will have to change direction and do some research into a pre only.

I've found a preamp that I am interested in but it is more than I want to spend... but of course if it's really as good as I've read it is, it may be a moot point.

I am considering the Safe Sound Audio P1. It only has one mic pre and one line in, but that is really all I need. It supposedly has a great Compressor, Limiter and Expander.

Since I do not have easy access to one, I have to buy on faith since it only has one distributor in the US. This means there is no competitive pricing, when doesn't set well with me.

Anyone here using one or have any feedback on this unit?

Thanks for responding and now it looks like I'm once again starting from scratch. :p

Consider something with two preamps. You may someday want to record something in stereo....
