What do I do with this room?

A GIRL! ..... Hi there. :D only kidding.

You should do a few test recordings just to see how the room sounds as it is. Maybe you'll luck out and all will be fine.

And welcome to the forums Nismo.

Welcome-n-shit. ;)

My thoughts are to strip everything off the walls and ceiling, pull up the shag and start all over. :)
However, maybe you could go ahead and set up yer goodz and track a few things, mix a few things and see how it translates once ya burn a CD from it. I've got a feeling you'll probably get it sounding good in THAT room but it won't translate to other systems very well. AND it'll probably be a bass buildup problem.

BUT...try it and see before ya go tearin into it.

A DI on the bass will be fine. As to the amps, just set em on top of a small crate or something. Basically gettin em off the floor. And maybe overdub the vocal takes after the instruments are tracked.

In the meantime, let er rip. Try it as is and put a critical ear to it.

Much luck, much peace-n-shit. :D

Any other suggestions will be much appreciated.

some quick n easy DIY bass traps that you can either stand in corners on stands or hang in corners.
They'll help with tracking AND mixing.

When the rentals done, just take em with ya. ;)

As DB suggested get those amps up off the floor not only for recording but for practice .... nothing worst than the amp facing the guitarist ankles or ass and turning up to be able to hear them self.

Last I heard no one has ears on their ankles or ass! :laughings:

I'd rip the carpet off of the walls in a heartbeat.

The best sounding wall stuff I know of is lahala mat. I'm not sure if they sell it everywhere. Here in Hawaii they sell it at Kmart type places. It's a tree that they weave the leaves into mats and huge carpets and it sounds really good. I can't stand drywall - I did my whole house in it and regard it as a colossal mistake.

Stack bags of R32 insulation in the corners and see if you don't mind the dead space ("dead" as in "lacking ambience" -- I'm sure it's anything but "dead" in the low end and lower midrange, hence the bags of R32. 8-12 bags if you can).

The room can certainly be viable and 'dead" -- But the low end is going to be an issue either way - So if you get that under control from the start, you can decide how you want the rest of the room to behave.

Yeah, great track. It's a groove to drive to. Caravan weren't a bad little outfit. They weren't great but I love some of the stuff they did like "For Richard".
