I am only recording one side of the wave as it appears which I think is left but I hear it through both speakers. I had to change s/pdif L-R (stereo) to In 1-2 (stereo) to even record the mic. If anyone could help I would like to know how to make the wave Left and Right?

what soundcard or interface are you using? What software? Keep in mind that one mic is a mono sound source, so in your software you'll want to set up a mono track and assign the one input that your mic is plugged into as the source. Once you have that mono track recorded you can pan it in the stereo field and apply stereo effects if you like. Hope that helps.
