hi everybody,
hope to have quick answers cause i'm in a recording now ..
i used to have a M audio fast track ultra 8R and it just broke today !
so i have to replace it , i was thinking about buying the same or upgrading my system, if it worth it ...
i work with :
I mac and pro tools (ok to change from protools ...)
i don't look after preamps cause i got good one (universal audio and 7th circle audio)
adam A7X for monitoring
good mics
studer A 80 (1 inch 8 tracks)
my goal is to record on the studer and then put the 8 tracks in the computer to mix ITB , i'd love to be full analog but i don't have room enough now ... later ...
so do my system diserve a better soundcard or i won't see the difference ?
don't want to spend too much in that but want to be coherent
thanx for your help !!

If the power light comes on I'm always a hopeful it's just software.

I'd probably reinstall the drivers and make sure you have latest from their website. It won't cost anything and who knows. Maybe even try and install it on another computer.

I'd just absolutely rule out it's for sure broken first.

I'll bet your A7X's would enjoy a new interface.

Actually my main mac interface died on me last night also.
It was a apogee ensemble in my case. I have a duet and
tascam fw1082 I can use temporarily. My ensemble was
just a couple months old. I've come to the conslusion that
no one makes a reliable FW interface.

I wish some one would make something dependable.

So you want to drop pro tools? I'm curious to why?
I've been working in Sonar and Logic and was thinking
about picking up a Pro tools package of some kind.

I see avid has a new mbox out now.

i was working on cubase and prefered it in a way, maybe just because i was used to it .. it's more instinctive to me ...
sorry for your apogee ..
what did you think about the apogee ? have you ever compared with a rme fireface 800 ?
what's the best ? USB or firewire ?

Well I got an RMA for the ensemble.
Haven't used any rem equipment yet. The UC 400 looks like the best bet.
I like the functionality of the ensemble, I also have a lynx 2A in another
PC I use for sonar 8.5 when I compare the ensembe or duet to the lynx 2
I really think the overall sound of the Lynx 2 is just a little fuller while
keeping a tighter bottom end.

So I guess I would recommnend lynx over any of the
other garbage out there. But the since the lynx 2 is only pci
I would recomend either their aurora or one of the pci-e cards
they have out now.

FW is suppose to have the bandwidth advantage, but I was told it was
originally created for one way communication and that not what is doing
with a DAW. That RME UC400 may have the best through put I wish I knew
someone who had one.

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?". The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says "OK, now what?" [3]
