Brad Smith Music
I knew my voice wouldn't do on a song with the word 'Castle' in it. This would require someone schooled in Dio and Maiden! I gave Joe the tune with some scratch vocals and lyrics. He wrote the lyrics and melody for the pre-chorus. edit: Oh yea, Joe re-did the drum track too - Sweet!
This is what we ended up with - hope you like it. :D

Thanks,

Thanx man!
Brad wrote a great song here, I really enjoyed singing on it. :)

Hey Joe,
I've been really diggin' the bgvs on this. I hear something different/cool (than my usual, tired methods) on the main chorus. Tell me how you structured and recorded those so I steal some of your techniques. :D

Thanks again for bringing my song to life!

Brad :)

The backing vocals are 3 harmonies with 4 voices each harmony, panned 2 left and 2 right, also for each harmony. It's important not to pan them on top of but just close to each other. I bounced them onto a stereo track, put some chorus and an exciter, compressed them and that was it.

12 tracks of bgvs takes patience! Do you put individual track compression on each one, or just use bus compression?

Don't reply right away. Wait until our sad, lonely post hits the bottom again. Maybe one of our friends in the clinic might read this pathetic attempt to gather more than one very short comment/critique and feel sorry enough for us to give us a bump. :(

i think it was an unfortunate time to post a song with the site fucking up over the weekend....cant think of any other reason for this being overlooked...

its a power house..

Joe...vocals...fuck me

some nice guitar work...if anything id say they could have a little more in the low mids...but even as is they sound excellent...this has a great soundscape and some real meat to it

Joe...vocals....fuck me

I cant really hear anything wrong with the mix...Im no expert on country music (lol) but this sounds good to go...great performance and a solid mix, guys...really good job :)

btw Joe...vocals...fuck me

Well then, yee-hah and into the wide blue yonder...!:D
Thanx Keith.;)

Brad - it's bus compression....I think putting a compressor on every track would have my computer gasping for breath.:o:D

dude, I know we have a kind of mutual fan club thing going on...but you are without a doubt, and by far, the best vocalist I hear in here...and in this style pretty much out of here too...the meticulous attention to detail, as in your 12 track backing vocals, totally pays off yet again

Well then it's time us two put our heads together and came up with something hot, don't you think? I'm thinking something industrial, dark and heavy. I sing and play the guitars, you play those awesome synths of yours and do the drums. I can hear it in my mind.......;)

Holy shit boys--this rocks!!

The best compliment I can pay to "home recorded" material is this: Right away, I crank it up and enjoy it. I'm not listening for levels or mistakes or things I'd do differently--it just rocks, so I get lost in listening to the music.

This is one of those. Wow...

man you have got a deal....you have any ideas jot them down...if not Im on it like herpes..er I mean like something fast...not herpes :o

sorry for the hijack..Im listening to this again...and I dont even like christian rap! ;)

You guys had Brad real scared......but I kept telling him he wrote a great song.:D
Thanx for the comments Bob. Coming from a great guitar player like you, that's really something.:)

PS: don't EVER invite me to your beautiful new studio, 'cos I'll chain mysef to your desk and you'll have to saw off my arms....!:D

Thanks for the listen Bob and Keith and breaking the silence. Yea, I thought we'd pissed off the whole board or something  It's funny how you guys reacted to Joe's performance the same way I did when he sent it to me: Expletives of amazement and wonder :D! Joe's got this magical can of turd polish that he used on my song, it was great. This song was my attempt to bust outta my 80's playing/writing box and go for a post-grunge more modern kinda thing. The track's been finished for two years, but I had nothing for the voice. Once Joe agreed to sing on it, I wrote most of the lyrics and melody in one night. With Joe's classic metal voice and the classic metal lyrics, I'm not sure what decade this tune wound up in, but I like it :D.

Cheers Joe :drunk:

Brad

PS- well, according to Keith it's Christian-Country-Rap so that narrows it down some :p

It's great to hear your voice in a different register Joey. You have terrificly expressive tone in the lower end.
Great collaboration gentlefolk.

Thanx Ray, always nice to hear from you.:)
I guess my lower-end makes up for some shortcomings in my higher-end......;)

Wow. Okay... That was cussin' awesome. Joe, for real, what's going on here? I mean seriously. That vocal is so perfect - so passionate - so commercial. Why aren't we hearing you on the radio? I'm not strokin', either - I'm serious. I consider myself a connoisseur of music, so I'm not blowing smoke at ya when I say - you've got a voice right up there with the big players. One of my personal favorites is Geoff Tate of Queensryche. You're right up there, man. Holy cuss.

The song itself is awesome. If I'm being honest, I found the guitars a bit grating. I know they're supposed to be harsh for this musical style, but I don't want my ears to bleed if I turn it up. The guitars are also slightly too loud for the vocals, in my opinion. When you've got Joe singing, you've got a gold nugget in your song. Let it shine.

Awesome effort, guys. I love seeing collaboration here. Oh, and on that note, Keith - if you and Joe end up collaborating and don't ask me to do drums, I might go jump off a bridge or something. How would ya like that on your conscience? :laughings:

Great song. Thanks for sharing.

better pick a bridge i just finished the drums  :laughings:

only joking :) if you are seriously up for we will probably be all systems go once we get a basic idea involved...ill probably do all the foundation stuff first....lemme know if you want in Jason...will probably either layer acoustic stuff with industrial samples or go the Muse route with a big acoustic sound on its own?? :)

sorry for the hijack again Brad...but in truth more folks should be listening to this, so bumpity bump :D
