Question about my strat..

If you're asking how higher value pots cause the pickups to resonate at a higher frequency, then I don't know. I only have a basic knowledge of this stuff.
That's OK.

Anyone else? If this is real, it can be explained.

ZoSo, I have exactly the same guitar, with a black finish.

It's a '91 model, an American made Strat Plus. I bought mine new in '91 and if I recall I paid about $950 for it.

Lace Gold sensors, Hipshot Tremsetter, roller nut exactly like yours, locking tuners. Same tone pot with a detent at "5."

It's a great-sounding guitar with fantastic action. Mine does not have a shim under the roller nut, and my truss rod plug is not popping out. :p

The last time I poked around trying to find a used value for these, I think they were going at about $700 - $800 in excellent condition.

awesome! i think it's a great guitar, just should probably get it set up and see whats up with the shim loll.

hows your tremsetter work? i'm not sure if mines even set up right, as it won't help keep it in tune like i'm reading that they're supposed to lol

I think a nice feature is they have the swimming pool routed out so a player can slap on any kind of pickguard.pup configuration....no routing required.

my buddys was mint...it'll be one of those "that got away" for me..$350 mint...damn.. its $700 and often selling for $900 per searching around.
like I said he doesn't sell stuff, he wants nothing to do with selling things..
so he sold wholesale.
GC will sell it for $700.

The Tremsetter works OK, but it's not a cure-all. If it's set up correctly, it will pull the strings/vibrato assembly to what feels like a detent, right in the center of the vibrato's throw. So it's supposed to bring your strings back to the same spot every time.

I find that it works fine for mild to moderate vibrato work (but having no Tremsetter at all might be OK too). Deep divebombs will throw mine out of whack every time. I think the roller nut ain't rollin'. :D If I were to want to do serious whammy work I'd probably have a luthier install a Floyd Rose with fine tuners, and a locking nut.

Not sure about this - I've never had my pickguard off. Wouldn't surprise me, though, if it were - from a production POV it would make more sense to have just one body rout.

I have a '97 American Strat that I put Lace Sensors in the better part of a decade ago, and (since Fender recommends this pot with Lace Sensors) mine has the same circuit in it.

I can't explain the actual physics behind it - mshilarious is, again, probably the guy to talk to - but I can confirm that it DOES make a (subtle) difference on the sound.

If it helps, look at it like this - it doesn't "add" treble as you go above 5 and gradually increase the resistance from 250 to 1k, as much as it takes less treble away as the resistance decreases. It's passive, but it does let a little more presence come through.

I usually just leave it on 10 all the time, so whatever. :)

yeah i hear you...i feel the detent in mine, but sometimes it still comes out. apparently these first gen roller nuts sucked anyway lol

Yeah, mine behaves just like a regular nut when I do deep bends. Strings bind behind the nut, causing them to go sharp until I give 'em a good tug.

well usually what i do is if i'm divebombing a bit just for that lil trem effect, i find that when i'm done, i just give it a pull UP (i have my bridge set floating) and then back to the detent, which SOMETIMES helps....mostly not though lol
