Hey jli welcome to the forums but............you joined six years ago and this is only your second post! You must be a man of few words.

I knew that there was something up when a noob shows up bearing gifts :laughings: (this is not your usual noob type of post) .

Yup funny as all heck, this video is full of untruths especially microphone price.

He should change his name from bwana to gwana for that's what he is full of. :laughings:

If you look real close at the microphone it is actually facing up towards the ceiling -you can see the MXL label on the side facing up. Notice how the recording has a ROOM sound and not very authoritative and in your face if it were to be pointing the right way. And if it was facing down towards his lower body it would be low endy, more muffled and more ....well shity. :rolleyes:

No doubt he is micing his lower body....he sat on his 58 a few years ago and hasn't found it since! :laughings:

With this guys case *In every pod caster there's a little 58 waiting to get out* :laughings::laughings::spank::laughings::laughings:

now let's not start any fat jokes here but, it's amazing that with all of that gravitational pull the words were able to leave his mouth and make it to the microphone

edit** checked another vid of his where he is using the mic (the wrong way)

people didn't hesitate to tell him.

Some one should tip him off that if you duplicate your track, and invert the phase, it will sound great! :laughings:
 
I don't know any of you personally, but I sort of feel like if he weren't a fat black dude, you wouldn't find it quite as humorous. I hope that's not the case, but if so: that's pretty depressing/embarrassing. Yeah, he's got the mic pointed the wrong way, but he's hardly the first to do so, and it's not always visually obvious which way the capsule is pointed (421, anyone?).

Just sayin'...

You have a nice person trying to help people and others mock him.

In the big picture, every single one of us doesn't know know shit, we're all small.

I really liked the guy's vibe, he seemed sensitive and humble. I've known and played with some of the best musicians on the planet and they all have those attributes - sensitive and humble.

Every day I see people here call people "gay" and such and I don't get it. Sometimes I really get the feeling that some people here have uncles and aunts who were/are in the KKK.

it's got nothing to do with race whatsoever (for me anyway)

personally, i'd find it twice as funny if it was a skinny white dude, but that's besides the point.

I just found it kinda funny that the dude is offering advice on how to get a great sound, and he's pointed the microphone at the ceiling.

it doesn't matter if other people have done that in the past, or if he is kind natured, or his attributes remind you of some of the nicest people you know. it's simply a bit funny.

you could take the most friendly, helpful, genuine person in the world. i'd still piss myself if he walked into a lamp post or somethin.

Not only that, but talking about microphone selection and how his is so wonderful.

Fat & black had nothing to do with it (he was fat...? I honestly don't even remember). Would've been funnier if he had a thick Russian accent and he was turning all his "V's" into "W's" though...

"Ensign authorization code 9-5-Wictor-Wictor-2" That was a funny freaking line, there...

Hey, he IS talking about hobby podcasting & says use what you have until you work out whether you like doing it or not & THEN spend a little.
I don't own a >$300 mic.
In fact I don't own a >$200 mic.
He wasn't being authoratative about mic selection - jsut where you can start.
The sound of the vid will give enough clues to a discerning listener/viewer as to his place on the timeline of skills development.

I totally agree. What's the point in mocking him?
He's not a sound engineer, obviously.
He's just trying nicely to help newbies get started. And that deserves respect.
Even if he makes mistakes. Everybody does.
