Well, not really run, but it's like when you're having sex and you have to get up and go the bathroom and it takes a few moments when you get back in bed to get back to where you were. :)

You can do it, but when I recorded drums with the kit 10' from the computer, by the 5th take I was ready to kill someone. Plus, from the drumset I can see the record levels and adjust the playback levels on different tracks and the click. It's just more calm and it puts you in the zone better - better for your concentration, that's what I found anyway.

Exactly, it's just nice to have everything setup in a way that's convenient to use so that you can focus on playing instead of waste time moving all over the place

i'd also like to point out to chili who i'm sure is waiting for me to recommend the military, i made no comment regarding the fan noise over the drum set thing. :laughings:

Just out of curiosity...which branch of the service would you have recommended in this case? :D

Have you thought of getting a Wireless keyboard ??? Mine works like 30+ feet away from the computer ..... that way you can have the wired keyboard next to your computer and a USB Wireless keyboard next to your drums .....

PS: I must be the only drummer in the world that doesn"t play to a click track

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines, except that the OP should get a wireless mouse (just plugs into a usb port).

Bada bing, bada boom.

Done.

OK buy something but how about looking for a cheap used midi keyboard with transport functions and use it as a control surface. Run a USB cable and now you can even arm, record, playback etc all from the comfort of your drum stool.

Now I use Sonar so I don't know what the control surface capabilities of Ableton are but I assume it supports control surfaces?

When I read the question I thought the first thing anyone was going to say was "signal to noise"...

And hello, haven't we all been dealing with this problem for years...

Sufficient silence to enable yourself to get in position for whatever the instrument is, then a count-in one, two, three, four (or one, two, three, two, two, three for six eight) and you're good....

:laughings:

Couldn't you rig up some kind of plastic finger on a metal arm that is controlled by pulleys in the ceiling and connected to an extra bass pedal? Or what about one of them robots that Honda make? He can run pretty fast these days, so you could teach him to play the drums instead.

Maybe you should just get "Thing" to press the button. :D

So when I was setting up my studio I purposely put the drums on the opposite side of the room from my computer so that the mics wouldn't pick up any fan noise. But now that I'm trying to do some recording with it I can't hit record get over to the drums and get ready in time to do the recording. I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions on how to trigger the recording when I'm ready, and I'm using Ableton 8 btw.

Isn't this what a girlfriend and/or wife is for? :laughings:
Show someone what to hit while everyone is in place and there you go.

You ever tried to get a girlfriend to follow simple instructions to help you with recording?

Some may be luckier than me, but in my experience, it's really quite a painful ordeal.

Yeah to be honest I don't think I'd even trust me girlfriend trying to help. I'd rather not have to redo a couple hours of work because of a stupid mistake.

No.

... Now what is this problem with dinty having to go to the bathroom while have sex?...

I just found out that someone broke into my account and has been posting embarrassing personal details under the name "dintymoore". Here I spend years building up a reputation based on honesty, deception and stalwartness and then some lowlife drags my name through the mud. I don't appreciate and I have contacted the local authorities including 5-0.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
