well you already got your answer.
I am 17 myself and kind of hard for myself to get down all my instruments but i have good setup now.

you can get the presonus audiobox :
http://www.amazon.com/PRESONUS-Audi...cal-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1279740473&sr=1-2

this link they've got free XLR cable for buying the Aduiobox , great way of saving $15-20 bucks. they had a deal with headphone and xlr cable but they sold out. This one is good deal too.

You can go with the mic you've chosen and if you buy the presonus Audiobox youll get a free software from presonus , software called Presonus Studio One artist, its a good software. Has effects and various options and good mixer aswell.

Thats all youll need to record at this moment , your mic , Presonus Audiobox ( it comes with XLR , software ) .

Download the latest driver of the audiobox from their site than installing the driver CD that it comes with.

do u not think all this is a bit much for some simple single track recordings. not to mention the first recording he's ever done! - won't the Presonus just double the cost unnecessarily?

at this level, for me anyway, that would go under - things to buy when i:
need it
know what it does and why i need it
can afford it

it would be great, i agree! but for now i'd keep it simple :)

the sm58 is probs his savings for the last 3 years! :P

k so wait logical
are you saying i can simply hook my sm58 straight into my comp?
dont i needa go thru audio interface and then usb into my comp?

also this is gonna be for the rest of my life
rappin is my passion, i already got 5 songs written ready to be shown to public
im willin to spend 300$ on this or less

We probably got off lucky just being called bastards with him being a rapper and all.

Good point!

Hey jazzy..... can I be a "bitch" in one of your tunes?

A skanky one would be even better...

Whenever you get around to it is good... :)

Well good point on saving and money stuff but im a newbie myself but how will he connect the XLR directly to the PC ?

I am pretty sure once he gets started he will add monitors , want to make beats , because these days rappers make their own beats.

I am also a newbie , so i maybe wrong. I am a rapper or atleast trying to make couple of songs. I started off thinking i will only rap , then i noticed that i couldnt find beats that i wanted , so i needed to make em according to my need and i got into producing beats too. I bought Blue icicle ( xlr to usb with 48v phantom ) it was piece of crap.

Then i bought this Presonus , then couple of months later now i bought the KRK's.

And he is saying he can afford it , it comes under $160 for him. Its up to him i guess.

yeah fair enough

the xlr is hardly a problem if he he's going through a preamp. i never said directly connect to the computer cos he'll need to boost the sound for the computer to record.
also my very first mic was a shure and it came with a xlr-minijack lead so it could easily go straight to the computer.

however it sounds like u know what a rapper may require in the future so fair enough.

@Jazzyc

well that's great that u can afford it. I never said go through a usb (infact the opposite!!! right from my first reply). i said you will need a mic, a preamp and some software.

i think you will realise at some point that an sm58 is great for the next few years (maybe) but if your gonna be doing any serious music any pro studio will have tens of thousands of $ worth of mics. an sm58 isn't a pro mic for life and neither is a presonus.

but forgetting that - the sm58 is a great mic for now!!! it is still fine for you at the moment and when u can get a better one (only if u need it though) u can invest in something a bit more expensive.

saying it's for life is like saying ur first $200 violin is for life - but u have to work at in stages.

good luck

Yea, i have no idea whats the mic is like . I use Mxl 990 and thats a great piece of mic for me. You can buy mxl990 with shock mount for like $60.

Presouns USB is a great piece of hardware and it will be good for good 2-3 years , it comes with software and if u buy it off that amazon deal , you get a free xlr cable , the cable is like 15-20 ft. and if you really go good , i am pretty sure your folks will be happy to put down some money and buy more pro equipments.

This is my little setup now , the axiom 25 is an extra equipment that i have but i use it for chopping sample and drums.

Its money well spent in my view.

Mars never made Spangles available in the US. The USDA deemed them as industrial waste!
.................look at what happen to KC and Bristol

Yeah, Spangles were pretty manky anyway. I wasn't sorry they got phased out. Trebor banana chews, on the other hand........

Although I'm no computer recording guru I think you're still gonna need an interface.
