lol i couldn't believe it too, ive been using the samson and nowhere near that quality. but ive talked to him and seen him in studio, it is a standard Dell Computer and Samson CO1U, no fancy shit.
I believe to the trained ear it's off levels/over compressed which is what my musician engineer friends say, but to me it sounds real good.

i wouldn't write it off just yet...

i'm still learnin like most of us,,,but i've learned that it's amazing what you can do with your gear the more you get to know it,

but it's always more amazing what some other **** can do with it :mad:

Why not? The people using the equipment count way more than the equipment. It's entirely possible as long as the monitoring situation is good.

I'd be more shocked by good results from a noobie using a Neuman than I would be by good results from a guy who knows what he's doing using a USB mic.

lol dude's 14 and average income so he's only got average equipment. He's got the same shit as me, as for speakers, possibly, but what if i use my headphones?

As I said, the equipment has a shockingly small amount to do with the final sound. Except for...

...speakers (and your listening room). Everything about recording and mixing comes down to how well you can hear what you're doing.

A $20 mic paired with a powerful, flat, accurate speaker system in a good room gives the engineer a fighting chance.

A $3000 mic paired with computer speakers or regular ol' headphones shuts the engineer down entirely.

This stuff is not "point n' shoot". You have to manually get in there and twiddle knobs, move stuff, tweak, and hammer every step of the way. Even for a simple vocal recording. And you have to hear the signal coming off of the mic to do any of that.

I like to make an analogy to painting. Take two equal painters. One has crap brushes and paints but a nice bright room to work in. The other has the best brushes and paints in the world but has to work in a room with only a very dim red light. Who has a better chance of accurately painting a picture of a person sitting in the room with them?

Your speakers are your "room light" in the world of audio. You can't do anything without great speakers.

Save up $600 or more and get yourself the best speakers possible. That $20 mic will come to life like you wouldn't believe (after you learn how to listen to sound critically, that is).

If they're equal painters then they should both create equally accurate work, just with different portrayals of light.

The painting in the dim red room wouldn't translate to bright light rooms. Have you ever tried to identify blue VS green VS black under a dim red light? Red Vs White? They look about the same. A painting made under such lighting conditions would have gross color inaccuracies. Some shadows could be green tinged, some blue tinged because hey... it all looks black while you're making it. Once you brought it out of that room and into the sunlight it just wouldn't look right at all. Meanwhile the painting the other guy did in the bright room would still look fine no matter what type of light you shined on it because all of the color relationships are actually correct.

Same thing with bad speakers and rooms Vs good speakers and rooms. Sure something can be made to sound right when created in a flawed listening environment...but it will only ever sound right in the room where it was made. As soon as you bring that recording anywhere else the inaccuracies will be revealed.

<shakes head>

so the two equal engineers produce equal mixes but with different portrayals of the audio frequency spectrum????

ie....one mix sounds shite?

Can you ask him his exact process ?

true. but you can tell

i guess i meant this was not some kid with a co1 u in an untreated bedroom kinda deal...

if this is a c01u its been produced by a pro

so to the origianl poster the chances of replicating this a are slim

ive used one, it crackles and pops, and it has no warmth whatsoever
there been a decent pre used in this dudes recordings

Nah, tried he won't tell me or anyone. As for AdamAngler, if you listen to his music and watch his vids, you know he records in a bedroom. He's answered the question in a blog "what equipment do you use", he said CO1U, Cool Edit and Dell Dimension. Preamp- NONE. Its not pro because i knew him since he started rapping at age of 14.

why wont he tell anyone? what has got to hide?
If he were hiding a stash of a million bucks in his closet then yh i understand he wont tell anyone.
Pretty much all recording studios show their exact set up and equipment.

what if i use my headphones?

Headphones are never ideal in mixing but if they are good enough (ones that are meant for studios, not just for enjoying music) they propably are still way better than awfull speakers in an awfull room.
