Line 6 is going to turn the mic world upside down

As a wise man once said, "That thing looks like the back of my grandma's television" :p :D

Yeah, but it sounds fucking awesome. :D

And, really, my Roadster is surprisingly versatile. It does the whole "Recto" metal thing like a champ, but it also does great singing lead sounds, terrific clean and "gritty" clean sounds, and the "brit" mode on Channel 2 is a fucking blast with a Stratocaster, especially if you're running EL34s and a fair amount of volume.

This is a VERY quickly recorded clip - I pretty much just tossed a Audix i5 in front of my 2x12 and had at it, and it's a Strat with a 9-month-old set of Elixirs on it - and it's almost entirely un-mixed, but here's the Channel 1 "Tweed" mode with a fair amount of gain at moderate volumes doing sort of a Jimi-esq bluesy thing:

This is still pretty rough, and better mic position, EL34s, and fresh strings will do wonders, but that's not really the sort of sound a Rectifier is known for, and I fuckin' love it for that. :D

that ain't for miroslav. nope. he's not "beyond" PC amps...they were never even a consideration for him. Look...you can couch it any way you like, but PC amps are nothing more than an "it'll do" alternative driven by things other than their sound quality. And that's the only point he's making...

I mean, he will agree...for a lot of folks, sound quality ends up giving way to budget and lifestyle/environment concerns...but that his concern, therefore he will never be sold on digital PC amps, 'cuz they just don't sound like the real thing.

Listening to samples of a modeler VS amp shoot out means nothing.
When he is in the room playing through an amp VS a modeler THAT'S when he can hear and feel the difference, and if you can't notice the difference...then don't worry about it...use the modeler.

See...you're just looking at it from an "end product" perspective...and he will agree, that for *some types* of music/mixes...a guitar's sound can become quite buried within the whole mix, and subtle tonal nuances can get lost, but that isn't always the case. Have you seen how many threads pop up about guys having a tough time getting their guitar to sound right in a recording...and then you see that they are NOT using an amp, and are instead using some “PC amps”...? well miroslav can.

Also...who's playing AND recording in the studio...? Well…he is...and as a guitar player, he can't stand the idea of playing through a modeler as much as I couldn't for playing live...'cuz even in the studio, he's still *playing* the amp....it responds to what/how he plays...it has an organic, living/breathing kind of quality to it to miroslav. he also knows for sure that you can't *play* a modeler...all you can do is put your guitar signal into it...and out comes a homogenized, algorithmically programmed sound, which to him doesn't sound right...and therefore it isn't right.

That's pretty wild... I think I'd rather take a Mac mini and throw it in the back of a Fender amp. I'm not sure about the long term reality of combing an amp and a computer. Reminds me of the Sears guitar cases with the built-in amps.

Its actually a pretty well spec'd PC too...though I cant imagine blasting out metal toons would help its longevity, Ive wasted two hard drives doing nothing :( ????

The strongest part of the pulse lasts for only a fraction of a second, but any unprotected electrical equipment — and anything connected to electrical cables, which act as giant lightning rods or antennae — will be affected by the pulse. Older, vacuum tube (valve) based equipment is much less vulnerable to EMP than newer solid state equipment; Soviet Cold War–era military aircraft often had avionics based on vacuum tubes due both to limitations in Soviet solid-state capabilities and a belief that the vacuum gear would survive better.[

Yeah - read that? When Kim Jong-il lets one loose on our ass, *some* of us are gonna keep right on rockin!

In thinking this through a little further... being as the grid is controlled by modern circuitry, you may have a tube amp that works but only if you have electricity to it.. So I guess if you have an old generator maybe you can rock till it runs out of gas...just saying
