I have a fairly deep baritone/tenor and I'm looking to record vocals for Rap/R&B. I can spend probably up to 250 for a good mic that will last a while.

So I've been considering the Behring B-2 Pro and Rode NT1-A based on reviews. Do you guys have any comments or suggestions?

Buy cheap...buy twice...I have the same type of voice...and the AT4047 is my go to...you might find a used one for around $300

I would agree here - the AT is the one I normally recommend for a good mic. when money is tight.

Though the new Neumann TLM 102 brings a Neumann into the affordable bracket at under £500 (but still double the OP budget, I'm afraid - but will last forever).

You have so many good suggestions from people but you should check out the MXL V67g, or the Shure SM7b.

Get the SM7b and you also have a bass drum mic and a nice mic for amps so its worth going a bit over budget...and Ive seen that Mxl for about $50...but Id reccommend the AT3035 over it....and Ive seen it going for about the same.

That's true I forgot to mention the muti task features of the 7b as well as the EV RE20.
Hey, how have you been Darrin?

Video huh? How you liking that?
I usually hire that end out but it's interesting.
An other studio about an hour from here went that way and is doing more videos than sound recording now. Everyone wants to put up a video now on u tube etc. of their band.

Actually the most profitable part is doing work for Lawyers and construction companies...and I dont see that ending anytime soon...Ive been billing out for $120 an hour and I turn down more things than I end up doing.

You mean you video for Lawyers and construction Co.s ? In what need do they require video for?

Video depositions, Wills...and details on how underground construction is done...both are handy when it comes to lawsuits.

Very cool ....looks to be a great job.
Is it kind of like the old days of when a P.I. goes out and gets pictures for the Lawyer?

Ive done that...caught cheating husbands on tape that is...got me through college.

Thanks for the advice. I only plan on recording vocals at this point and the only other instrument I play is the violin so unless the Shure SM7b's versatility probably wouldn't be utilized much.

The MXL 67G looks like a pretty safe option (even if I don't like it, its pretty cheap). Do you know how it compares to the similarly priced Behring B-2?

lol SM7b vs AT4047?

Depends...you need to really sing louder for the SM7...and the AT4047 beats it all around...I own both and used them with the same preamps...but the SM7 is cheaper and it is great on Bass Drum.

The V67g is head and shoulders above the B-2

Agree 100%...never have a behringer product in the signal path...the MXL is solid.
