for the AC30112CC. the chassis must be removed to access the tubes. the speaker leads are soldered to the speaker. i don't really want to solder and unsolder them every time i need to get to the tubes. this is probably a stupid question, but can i cut the wires and reconnect them when i'm done with something that will come apart relatively easily in the future? if so, what type of connectors?

something else?

I would use something latching. Cheap would be Tamiya connectors; expensive would be something from the automotive connector catalog . . .

Vox didn't leave enough slack to slide the chassis out for a tube swap? That'll piss ya off. I would think any sort of spade connector like your picture would be fine. They don't generally use a heavy gauge wire for speaker leads which I always thought was kinda strange.

something like this?

Those would be they--rated up to 15A, which is plenty (1800W into 8 ohms!), but only 14ga cable, so if yours is truly heavier, it might not fit.

The main reason these suck is that are totally inappropriate for RC car batteries, where they are commonly used, because eventually the retaining tab will break off if you are changing batteries constantly. But for unplugging once every two years they work OK, and they are cheap and commonly available because of the RC market.

sweet. thanks, dude. upstate steve sent me a bunch of tubes when i first got the amp. didn't want to tear into it at that time. i'm ready to see what this thing will do with some sweetness in it.

I have used spade connectors. Mainly because with a simple 112 extension cab its nice to swap speakers.

What's at the other end of the speaker wire...a jack/plug...or is it also soldered...internally to the chassis???

two easily accessible plugs, but i'd just rather go get connectors at either radio shack or auto zone, cut the wires, then attach the connectors. that way i can drive around town, waste time AND spend money.

swapped out all three preamp toobz. very nice. gonna give these a few weeks before i switch it up again. he sent me 8 really nice tubes with suggestions on which to put where, but encouraged me to experiment until i find the right combo.

It's odd...that's all...that they would double solder at both ends with a short wire....for exactly the reason and problem you're having.

Never ran across it before...so it's not that obvious.

Based on what I've seen posted on forums....no...not always obvious.

Enjoy your tube swaps.

didn't say it was ALWAYS obvious. i said in this instance it was totally obvious. i wouldn't have posted a thread if there were plugs at the other end of it.
