Where to buy High Bias Type II cassettes?

I found the make I used to use on amazon(TDK SM60) for about 6 dollars apiece. This really sucks cause two years ago I would've gotten a 10 pack for 25 bucks. Aside from amazon and ebay, I'm lost as far as finding cassettes for my little Tascam.

Check variety stores and such,you might get lucky.

There's a business in my town (Springfield, MO) called National Audio Company that produces new cassettes of varying grades.

I think you can get 60 minute chrome type II tapes for around $.70 each if you're ordering in larger quantities. They also have cobalt type IIs for less.

I've lived in Springfield for about four years now and just discovered this place a couple of days ago. Quite the pleasant surprise.

A little unrelated, but they have a music package deal that includes duplication of 100 chrome type II cassettes in any of 20 different colors, labeling of the cassettes, clear Norelco cases, and printing of full color double sided inserts starting at $135 for 60 run-times. It's only about $10 more for 90 minute tapes. I'm working on a cassette compilation of local live shows I've recorded and will probably be going this route.

Thrift stores. Of course, you have to be diligent and patient, but when you do find 'em, chances are you'll score big. I recently found 29 sealed Maxell XLII60's for .50 each. Oh yeah.

You won't get high basis tapes at a Shopper's. Those are normal bias tapes.

I haven't. However, I did buy a box of chrome cassettes from another similar company, but I can't remember the name right now (I'll find it eventually). They were priced similarly (under $1 per tape). As soon as my 246 gets out of the shop, I'm going to test them against my Maxell XLII and TDKSA60 tapes to see how they do. When I post the results, I'll be sure to include the actual company name and all.

There's that holding company called (Global Brands) that owns some ghostware brands and I bought a 10-pack of 90min tapes from them, I think that cost me $2.20 each, but the more you buy the lest they cost. I'm testing those out now, and they seem to be good. Also, according to the tapeheads forum they're bias-compatible with Maxell/TDK, which I believe since they sound the same as my Maxell tapes.

NAC tapes are BASF super chrome, what that means to me, I'm not sure, but at least they have 60min tapes, which I'm sure would be better in the long run for multitracking.
